A fashion vibe shift is coming in 2025 and it’s one we’re welcoming with fervent enthusiasm. New year, new us approach to dressing.
After a dizzying few years of micro-trends and wardrobe whiplash for those who subscribe to being in-the-know on the latest styles, our algorithms flipped, slowing to a capsule-wardrobe induced halt. Suddenly, it felt like everyone was dressing the same—another by-product of TikTok style directives influenced by a direly slow economy. In 2025, we may finally find the balance.
Uniform dressing makes way for maximalism and personal style, with subtle influences from 2010s fashion trends (boho, anyone?) and the burgeoning old money aesthetic—not to be mistaken for quiet luxury.
As we enter a style shift in the new year, these are the 2025 fashion trends we predict will dictate how you dress.
2025 Fashion Trends Predictions
Maximalism & Personal Style
As the omnipresence of Y2K finally begins to dissipate from runways, it’s replaced by bold silhouettes, intricate details and opulent fabrications primed for a self-expression style makeover.
The 2024 runways celebrated the bold, the innovative and above all the unique–and it was just a taste of what’s to come. At Yves Saint Laurent, ‘80s-inspired maximalism translated into brocades skirts, exaggerated shoulders and high lace necklines in jewel tones while Loewe broke the mold with hand-cut mother of pearl jackets that oozed opulence and floating, hooped skirts.
The new wave of maximalism won’t just rest on bold, bright coloured laurels, but see grand silhouettes, textures and fabrics championed with a personal touch.
The longing to break away from uniform dressing combined with the growing strain on the cost of living, materialised in the growing trend of bag charms in 2024—and these small shows of individuality are only set to continue into the new year.
Boho & The Isabel Marant Girl
Chemena Kamali altered our brain chemistry with her debut as Creative Director at Chloé. Boho was reborn with an edgy twist, adorned with suedes, studs and tassels, and it was all anyone could talk about in 2024. The swift embrace of the by-gone aesthetic, particularly once worn by veritable it-girls like Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sienna Miller, proved the fashion community was yearning for change.
Boho’s grip is only set to tighten over the style set in 2025 as Gen Z sets its sights on fellow 2010s cult label, Isabel Marant.
The term “Isabel Marant Girls” is fast becoming an internet subculture of its own, bolstered by the tune of A$AP Rocky and a doubling in search volume over the last 12 months. It may be a matter of time before wedge heel sneakers are stomping down sidewalks en masse.
2010s Influence
The Y2K obsession may well and truly be over. It was fun while it lasted, but we’re moving on. Not far though, with styles reminiscent of the 2010s cropping up on the latest runways with aplomb.
No matter how hard we fight it, the peep toe has been threatening to return on runway after runway including Tory Burch, Prada, Miu Miu, Alaïa and Khaite. Modern interpretations are putting our pedis on display in new, far more interesting shapes. Read: asymmetric and subtle shows of skin.
Miu Miu didn’t stop at footwear, with the house’s Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2025 parading collared shirts and soft cotton dresses under athleisure-esque parker jackets and blazers.
Old Money Aesthetic
Not to be confused with quiet luxury, the old money aesthetic is about the appearance and air of wealth that only comes from intergenerational inheritance. Given our economic standing of late, this aspirational style isn’t all that surprising (our sudden interest in barn jackets and equestrian style is a dead giveaway) and will play into several upcoming trends this year including chocolate hues, animal prints and modest dressing.
Anything but black is the colour directive when it comes to 2025 fashion trends. Rich tones like chocolates, cherry reds and tans—all of which have been tied to the old money aesthetic—will reign supreme. From Max Mara to Gucci and Fendi, we’ve seen the new neutral already swing its influence, as Pantone declares the colour of the year: Mocha Mousse.
As for prints, the love for leopard is evolving in 2025 as we see niche animal patterns take over. Think: exotic, the kind of rare animalia that would come with an old money price tag, if it were real, that is.
We can’t talk about old money style without mention of old money values. Enter the rise of the trad wife. A return to traditional, nuclear family values gained traction online this year, and whether we like it or not, it’s having an influence over fashion.
“I think there’s going to be a major modesty rebrand on both sides. If you lean more left you may opt for more modest style to give men less access to your body…on the flip side for conservative women they’re going to opt for tradwife” fashion writer, analyst and commentator, Mandy Lee, says on TikTok.
As Lee points out, the antithesis of trad wife in 2025 could actually look somewhat similar as women embrace dressing for the female gaze and prioritising personal style over skin-baring and figure-hugging styles.
