101 Ideas: The White Trend

White Here, White Now!

As the weather heats up, it’s time to hit refresh on our wardrobes and look to the newest (and hottest!) trends for the seasons ahead. While vibrant prints and bold hues are definitely having their moment, the tonal dressing trend remains in full force across the fashion world. Characterised by top-to-toe dressing in the same hue or colour, this monochromatic statement exudes elegance and sartorial confidence. And this season’s go-to colour (or non-colour for that matter) – white!

Associated with balance, equality and new beginnings, white has long been a classic choice for women everywhere. With a refreshing crispness and inherent chicness, you’re guaranteed to emanate sophistication and grace in adding a splash of white to your ensemble.

Last month, the Spring/Summer runways offered up a number of fresh takes on the monochromatic trend, with white emerging as the shade of choice. The Valentino runway show, headed by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, even opened with an all-white section. Other iconic labels also tapped into the timeless trend, including Alexander McQueen, Isabel Marant, Loewe and Balenciaga. From silky slips and ethereal lace, to feathered jackets and crisp cotton poplins, it’s safe to say that white was on full display.

Adding a touch of white to an outfit makes it anything but boring! Experiment with shape, fabric and texture to add an extra dimension to your classic white pieces. See below the pieces we’re loving this season.

One of our favourite takes on the trend is the re-worked white shirt. While once reserved for the working man’s wardrobe, today the white collared shirt exudes strength and modern femininity. Prominent on the runways, the trend was seen in the Spring and Summer collections of Burberry, the Row and Bevza. This year, designers have toyed with cut outs, asymmetric styling, oversized sleeves and exaggerated collars in their iterations of the classic piece.
