Donald Trump Makes History, Becomes First President To Be Impeached Twice

"He must go, he is a clear and present danger to the nation"

On January 14, Donald Trump became the first president in United States history to be impeached twice. In a historic vote, at least 232 House Representatives voted in favour of impeachment, including 10 Republicans, making it the most bipartisan impeachment vote in U.S. history.

The article of impeachment accuses Trump of “incitement of insurrection” for his role in encouraging the storming of the Capitol Building in which five people died.

Before the vote, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared Trump a “clear and present danger” to America. “He must go, he is a clear and present danger to the nation that we all love,” she said.

Trump was last impeached in December 2019 on two articles—an abuse of power and obstruction of Congress—but was acquitted by the Senate.

Following the impeachment vote, Trump released a statement. “In light of reports of more demonstrations, I urge that there must be NO violence, NO lawbreaking and NO vandalism of any kind,” it said. “That is not what I stand for, and it is not what America stands for. I call on ALL Americans to help ease tensions and calm tempers. Thank You.”

With just one week left to his term, celebrities and politicians are taking to social media to call for his immediate removal and trial. Below, how the world is reacting to the news.
