Dior’s Next Era Is Starting Off On The Right Foot Thanks To The New 62-22 Pumps

This revitalised take on the Roger Vivier for Dior pump is unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Along Paris’ famed Avenue Montaigne, France’s fashion set is captivated by a new idée fixe: the possibilities for Dior’s next era of style.

In March this year at Dior’s ready-to-wear F/W22 show, the brand’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri teased that something was coming—a reinvigorated direction for the legacy luxury maison that straddles the intersection of arts, crafts and fashion, and past, present and future.

Now, the next era for Dior has finally arrived, with a series of technically sound and masterfully constructed garments perfect for the girl-on-the-go.

From Christian Dior’s iconic creation, the Bar Jacket, revitalised with temperature regulating homeostasis properties developed in the Dior D-Lab, to a signature bodysuit fashioned with a network of neon strips reminiscent of our own internal blood system, each design proved Dior will always be on the forefront of innovation, femininity and originality.

However, none of these creations are as prominent or profound as the next step in Dior’s collaboration with luxury shoe brand Roger Vivier.

In MGC’s F/W22 season, Dior’s muses were adorned in motorsport-like footwear, aptly named the Dior 66-22 pump after 1966, the year these heels were first publicly released.

Before founding his eponymous luxury shoe brand, Vivier found himself as the official shoemaker for Christian Dior, with ornate materials and intricate details Vivier’s modus operandi when designing for the maison.

With the 66-22, it’s clear that Grazia Chiuri is paying homage to Vivier’s signature approach to design, while ushering a new form of fanfare for the silhouette.

In this collection, five new variations of the pump are on offer.

While the silhouettes remain the same, elaborate embroidery and sportif motifs are enlisted to bring the design into the new age.

Most notably, a neoprene ankle strap has been added to the shoe, with the maison describing the high-tech accent almost as an adaptable strap that can fasten to fit perfectly around the wearer’s ankle.

With fluorescent stitching and a light-weight finish, these shoes are the perfect addition to the celebrity style set’s arsenal, especially for those who balance the line between streetwear, gorpcore and haute couture.

We’re sure Bella Hadid will be sporting these heels with her signature knee high socks à la the runway in no time.

It’s hard to choose a favourite from these new styles.

For fans of the classics, look no further than black patent calfskin variation, however for those who want to put a preppy step in their corporate chic wardrobe, the hounds tooth point-toe makes for the perfect finishing touch.

Australiana aficionados will be pleased with the inclusion of 62-22 adorned with detailed golden wattle embroidery.

It’s well known that Monsieur Dior was an avid gardener, so perhaps the wattle motif was inspired from his own garden.

However, we can’t help but think that these shoes would make for a great Kath Day-Knight homage. Halloween is coming up, after all.

Thankfully for us, grabbing a pair of these soon-to-be cult favourites is as simple as popping down to Dior’s newly reopened dedicated shoe boutique in Melbourne’s David Jones boutique.

This season, put your best foot forward to walk your way into Dior’s next era.
