Typically, the most guess work involved with the festive period is figuring out what to gift your loved ones.
However, a close second (really a first in our books) when it comes to planning festivities is what to wear on Christmas day.
So, to take the guesswork out of what to wear come Christmas Day, we’ve outlined below what you can expect from the weather.
Christmas Day Weather 2024
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, we can expect a hot but soggy summer this coming December, but does that mean it’s all grey skies and rain clouds come the 25th?
Thankfully, your favourite fashion focused pseudo meterorlogists (a.k.a us) have done the research for you.
We’ve looked around the country on AccuWeather and rounded up what each major city can anticipate for Christmas.
For Sydneysiders, the week leading up to Christmas will be marked by a string of gloriously sunny days with tops of 28°C expected that should carry through to the end of the month. Both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is expected to be cloudy or partly cloudy with temperatures of 27°C, with rain and temperature of 28°C expected for Boxing Day.
Considering the weather reached a high of 25°C on Christmas Day in 2023 with showers, this is definitely set to be a warmer, sunnier Christmas.
Down in Melbourne, the forecast is looking very similar to that of Sydney.
AccuWeather claims December 25 is set to be sunny with the temperature sitting at 28°C. Perfection, if you ask us.
Hobart is expecting to be a lot cooler and rainier than the rest of Australia, with a high of 21°C estimated for Christmas Day. In more gloomy news for the Tassie capital, it’s expected to rain from Christmas day right through to the 27th of December. We guess, you can’t win them all.
Over in Central Australia, Adelaide and Darwin can expect high temps on Christmas Day, with temperatures sitting at 30°C and 34°C respectively, with Adeliade expecting some clouds.
While the weather may be mostly sunny and warm, don’t forget to stay protected from UV rays, even if you’re planning on staying inside.
On the West Coast, like much of December, Perth can expect a full day of sunshine with tops of 29°C. We guess this is what they’re talking about when they say ‘west is best’.
In Brisbane, you can expect warm temps with cloud coverage for most of the week including Chrismtas day with the temperature sitting at a lush 28°C.
We will caveat that these forecasts are subject to change and given how far out we are from December 25, we highly recommend keeping an eye on the weather in the lead up to the big day. Oh, and always have a wet weather contingency plan. Always.
