In a statement released by the Palace, it states that the 95-year-old monarch has contracted the virus, however, she’s only experiencing mild cold-like symptoms.

“Buckingham Palace confirm that The Queen has today tested positive for Covid,” the statement read. “Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week.”

“She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines,” the statement concluded.

News of Her Majesty falling ill comes soon after her own son, Prince Charles and wife, Duchess Camilla, also shared that they tested positive for the virus.

According to Harper’s BAZAAR, a senior royal source informed the publication that the Prince of Wales had met with his mother, a mere two days before he tested positive on February 8, leaving many to wonder if she contracted the virus from him.

Since then, a number of other cases within the Royal staff based at Windsor Castle, where the Queen currently lives, have also been diagnosed, as per People.

While the world celebrated the monarch’s first vaccination back in January 2021, not much was known about her complete vaccination status. According to reports, Her Majesty did receive her second dose but it’s currently unknown if she received her booster vaccine.

Back in October 2021, Queen Elizabeth also temporarily stepped back from official duties in response to her medical team’s requests for her to take it easy.

Despite this, Her Majesty has taken part in a series of virtual engagements as many were concerned for her health if she were to attend in person, as per The Guardian.

While she surely boasts a team of incredible medical staff working closely with her, here’s hoping that Queen Elizabeth is on the road to recovery.
