Prince William has publicly denied Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s accusations against the royals, in particular claims that the family took issue with Archie’s skin colour, which were revealed during their tell-all interview with Oprah.
On March 11, while on a visit to a London school, Prince William was asked by a reporter if he had spoken to his brother about the interview, he responded, “No, I haven’t spoken to him yet, but I will do.”
The reporter then followed up by asking, “Can you just let me know, is the royal family a racist family, sir?” to which William replied, “We are very much not a racist family,” while continuing to walk with Kate.
Since the explosive allegations came to light, Queen Elizabeth and Buckingham Palace have made a statement addressing the claims made against their ‘firm’ and their ‘institution’.
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning,” the statement reads.
“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.”
During their interview with Oprah, Meghan and Harry revealed that while they served as senior members of the royal family, there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [Archie’s] skin might be.”
But while Harry didn’t reveal which member of the royal family it was, Oprah did confirm that he wanted to make it clear that it was not Her Majesty nor Prince Philip who made the comments.
