Prince Harry Admits That He ‘Would Have Been Back’ In The U.K. If It Weren’t For The Pandemic

Including an 'extended visit' that might be in the works

While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle look to be settling into their life in the United States nicely, Harry has recently opened up about his wishes to head back to his home country.

The family recently moved into a new home in Montecito, where they’ve welcomed guests like Gloria Steinem for a backyard chat. However, their new-found happiness in California doesn’t mean Harry isn’t missing some things from home—even with Meghan’s love for Britishisms.

On August 29, the Duke of Sussex took part in a video call with staff from the Rugby Football League for its 125th birthday. Harry, who acts as Vice-Patron of the Rugby Football Union, joined the call for a bit of fun and to quiz staffers on the league’s history.

According to Harper’s BAZAAR U.S., Prince Harry spoke of how Rugby “can bring so many families together, bring so many people together…it doesn’t matter whether you’re in the stands, whether you’re the groundsman, whether you’re a player, whether you’re a fan, or whether you’re a first time watcher, every single person is bound by this family feeling.”

From there, Harry went on to admit that he’s hoping to visit the United Kingdom soon.

According to Us Weekly, Harry said: “We’ve got a whole rugby league World Cup coming next year.” He also noted that his favourite event is set to take place in England in October 2021.

“I definitely plan on coming back. I would have been back already had it not been for COVID.”

However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex won’t be returning to the U.K. purely for rugby. According to Omid Scobie, author of Finding Freedom, Harry and Meghan are hoping to spend “an extended period of time in the U.K. next year.”

“In March, we have the Invictus Games, which has been rescheduled, in The Hague,” Scobie said on his Heirpod podcast.

“In June, we have Trooping the Colour, which I imagine Prince Harry and Meghan would like to still be at, and July 1, we have the unveiling of the [Princess Diana] statue.”

Who knows, this might mean that we’ll get to witness the royal four back together—sooner than we think.
