Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Might Skip Christmas With The Royal Family

There might not be a festive royal foursome reunion, after all

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are currently planning a trip with their six-month-old son, Archie Harrison, to the US to spend Thanksgiving with Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland. But new reports are now suggesting the family might actually spend longer in the states than originally anticipated.

Source tell Vanity Fair that “there is a possibility” that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could stay on and spend Christmas in Los Angeles, but that “the plans have not been finalised.”

They added, “They will be in America for Thanksgiving later this month and there’s a chance they might choose to stay out there a while longer which might mean missing Christmas.” Though they didn’t specify how long the royals were thinking, Christmas and Thanksgiving are a month apart, so that would mean at least four weeks away from the UK.

Of course, Christmas is an important day for the royal family, who usually spend the day at Sandringham House in Norfolk with the Queen – in previous years, Meghan has attended with Harry and the invite was also extended to her mum, Doria. If the couple should choose to stay stateside, biographer Sally Bedell Smith told Vanity Fair that it “could be seen as another piece of evidence that [Harry and Meghan] are going their own way,” however, she notes the Queen understands Meghan’s want to spend time with her family at home.

After revealing they are struggling with the tabloid media scrutiny, it was confirmed that Harry and Meghan are taking a six-week break from royal duties over Christmas. A royal source told the Sunday Times: “The Duke and Duchess have a full schedule of engagements and commitments until mid-November, after which they will be taking some much-needed family time.”
