The one-year anniversary of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal departure is on the horizon, and it looks like the couple are finally ready to reveal all.
And the queen of talk-show television, Oprah Winfrey looks to be the captain guiding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s ship into the shore, in a TV special called Oprah with Meghan and Harry.
Set to appear in an interview on CBS, the pre-filmed special is set to air on March 7 and will see “Winfrey speak with Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure,” CBS said in a statement to Harper’s BAZAAR U.S.
In a 30-second teaser, released by CBS on March 1, the couple speak to Oprah about how blessed they feel to have each other while dealing with the vitriol that they receive by the press.
“I’m relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side, because I can’t imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago,” Prince Harry says, referring to his mother, Princess Diana.
“Because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us, but at least we have each other.”
Running for 90 minutes, Meghan and Oprah will take up most of the one-on-one, with Prince Harry joining in further on to offer insights. And while the couple have remained rather tight-lipped about their recent life decisions, they plan to speak “about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family,” says the press release.
Meghan has received an endless stream of requests, from around the world, to share their story, but it looks as if she was waiting for the right person, that being Oprah. The couple have remained close friends with Oprah since the start of their relationship, following an introduction by a close US-based associate of the Duchess back in 2017.
Not only did Oprah attend their royal wedding in 2018 at Windsor Castle, but she also resides in Montecito, the same neighbourhood where the Duke and Duchess own a home. Back in December, Oprah shared an Instagram video of a gift basket that she received from Meghan with products from Clevr Blends, a coffee company that Meghan privately invested in after her move back to the United States.
Currently, Oprah is also working on a mental health docuseries for Apple TV+ with Prince Harry, that the pair began working on back in 2019 and that will hopefully air later this year.
