You likely remember the sensational moment in April 2022 when Olivia Wilde wasreportedly served custody papers from ex-partner Jason Sudeikis, during her CinemaCon presentation. Wilde, who was celebrating the release of her directorial endeavour, Don’t Worry Darling, which starred her ex-boyfriend, Harry Styles and actress Florence Pugh, received a mysterious envelope during an advanced trailer screening of the film.
“This is for me, right?” a confused Wilde said, before picking up the envelope marked “Personal and Confidential,” which had been left at the foot of the stage by an unidentified person.
“Very mysterious. I’m going to open it now,” she continued before glancing at its contents “Is this a script? OK, got it. Thank you.”
Despite the disturbance, Wild continued on with her presentation seemingly unaffected.
“I want you to imagine a life where you have everything you could ever want,” Wilde told the audience.
“What would it take for you to give up that … perfect life? What are you really willing to sacrifice in order to do what’s right? Are you willing to dismantle the system that is designed to serve you? That’s the world and the question of Don’t Worry Darling.”
While many originally believed she had been handed an unsolicited screenplay, Deadline have reported that its contents contained custody papers, served to her by ex-partner Sudeikis.
The actors, who never married, share two children together, a son Otis (8) and a daughter, Daisy Josephine (5).
According to a source, “Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms. Wilde and Mr. Sudeikis.
“Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.”
Deadline reached out to reps for both Wilde and Sudeikis. The issue understandably raised issues around the level of security at CinemaCon and the level of vetting attendees are required to undergo in order to gain entry. Non-industry attendees are required to purchase a badge in order to attend, so it is unclear how this person actually entered the building.
