It’s only been a few days since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they’re expecting their second baby.
But aside from their ode to Diana and Harry’s meaningful choice of jewellery, their photographer has revealed that there was even more to the royal couple’s baby bump photos.
Misan Harriman, who’s also a longtime friend of the couple, spoke to Good Morning America on February 16, sharing the symbolism behind the Duchess of Sussex‘s pregnancy announcement snapshots that were taken remotely by Harriman in London, while she and Prince Harry remained in California.
The black-and-white photo sees the happy couple lounging in a garden, with Meghan resting her head in Prince Harry’s lap while cradling her baby bump.
Along with its oh-so-sweet visuals, Harriman explained, “You don’t even see the image, you feel it. They are lost in each other. And the tree in the background and just life growing around them is incredibly powerful and symbolic.”
He went on to note that the photo was created to symbolise “fortitude, hope love,” and he hopes that the image, “particularly for the many women going through this, should give them strength to know there’s light in that dark place. It really means a lot.”
While remote shooting seems like quite the feat, Harriman went on to detail how the photoshoot took place, oceans apart, and with little hiccups.
“In the age of COVID, it’s impossible obviously for me to be there to shoot it, so technology came to rescue,” he explained. “I was able to remotely take over the iPad and they could hear my voice and it was conversational and the rest really is history.”
The royal photographer shared the now famous image to his Twitter, along with a beautifully written caption to capture the priceless moment.
“Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow,” he captioned the tweet. “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!”
The couple, who are already parents to baby Archie, have made it very clear of their desire to grow their family in the past. Prince Harry was seen asking members of the public what it was like to be a parent of more than one child at an event in late 2019.
And while a due date has not been revealed, we can expect the royal baby to arrive sometime in 2021.
