Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement in November 2017, and while they provided insight into their relationship in an interview with the BBC following the news, royal fans are still attempting to put the pieces together of how the Duke and Duchess really met.
Fans were originally convinced Harry and Meghan were introduced through designer Misa Nonoo, a longtime friend of Meghan’s whose husband went to school with the royal brothers, but we now know who really set them up: Violet von Westenholz. Royal reporter Katie Nicholl reveals in her upcoming book, Harry and Meghan: Life, Loss, and Love, Von Westenholz, a publicist, apparently gave Harry Meghan’s number.
The couple then had a date at London’s Soho House, but Nicholls reports what went down on the first date, and its been confirmed chilled rosé was involved.

To make their first meeting even more special, Harry’s friend Markus Anderson “cleared rooms and corridors so they could meet in secret without the fear of being spotted,” a friend says. After several dates, Harry invited Meghan to join him on a holiday to Botswana, where they were able to get to know one another. He has since said that the “stars were aligned.”
While even Harry admits their first date was “perfect”, according to royal biographer Andrew Morton in his book, Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, the 37-year-old former Suits actress was worried about coming off as “too eager”.
Describing the “first intoxicating meeting”, Morton writes that the couple “were mesmerised by one another, Harry enthralled by her beauty, sophistication and perceptiveness.”
“She understood him as a man, not a title…As he subsequently confessed, he realised that he would have to up his game.”

“Both were buzzing,” continues Morton. “As she relived that fateful evening in her mind, she perhaps wondered if she had been too eager to accept his invitation to meet again the following day. Stay classy, Ms Markle.”
And the rest, as they say, is history.
