Despite the hopes of Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, to walk his daughter down the aisle (a total 180 after the paparazzi photo scandal), his recent health problems have rendered him unable to fly—and attend the wedding altogether.
As TMZ reports, the 72-year-old suffered a heart attack last week, had ongoing chest pains and underwent surgery.
“They [doctors] will go in and clear blockage, repair damage and put a stent where it is needed,” a source said.
Now, Meghan herself has released an official statement via Kensington Palace.
“Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,” the Suits star wrote.
“I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.”
She also took the opportunity to thank fans for their support ahead of May 19.
“I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support,” Markle added. “Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday.”
The statement comes as Meghan and Harry arrived in Windsor ahead of their wedding rehearsal and final preparations.
