Meghan Markle Addresses Tabloid Articles Concerning Her Father And Baby Shower In Court Documents

She's setting the record straight

As Meghan Markle’s court case against the British tabloid media, specifically Associated Newspapers (owner of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday), continues, further information is coming to light surrounding Meghan’s relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, as well as the truth behind articles on her baby shower and Frogmore Cottage, the home she renovated with Prince Harry.

As for reports regarding Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, alleging that she wasn’t invited to the royal’s baby shower earlier this year, legal papers state the claim is “untrue and offensive” to the duchess, according to People.

“The claimant’s mother was of course invited, and the claimant also offered to buy her airline tickets. However, her mother was unable to attend due to work commitments,” it reads.

It adds that it was also “untrue and offensive” to suggest that the guests at Meghan’s baby shower – which included Amal Clooney and Gayle King – were entirely a relatively new circle of celebrity friends.

“The baby shower (which actually cost a tiny fraction of the $300k falsely stated in the article) was organised and hosted by one of her best friends from university,” says the court papers. “The fifteen guests who attended the shower were close friends and included long-term friendships some of which had existed for over 20 years.”

The documents go on to address false articles surrounding Meghan and Hary’s renovation of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, saying the home doesn’t include the reported $6,500 copper bathtub, $650,000 of aircraft soundproofing, self-contained yoga studio, orangery or tennis court and doesn’t have a “guest wing” for Meghan’s mum to stay in either.

Earlier court documents allege Meghan’s private letter to her father, Thomas Markle, was released at a “time of great personal anguish and distress,” and now further information has come to light surrounding the lead up to her wedding, including the alleged falsity of reports that Meghan did not look after her father following his health scare.

“The true position is that the Claimant has a long history of looking after her father’s welfare and trying to find solutions to any health problems … she did provide extensive financial support for him,” Meghan’s legal team writes.

“Her father did not telephone her to explain that he was not coming to her wedding,” the papers read, also stating that “Her team in Los Angeles did provide him with continued support for which he had expressed gratitude” and that “She had reached out to him prior to the wedding and sought to protect him, as well as to ensure that he would be able to come to the wedding. The papers also state, “She did not ignore him afterwards.”
