Kristin Davis Slams Body Shamers Who Unnecessarily Comment On Her Appearance In ‘And Just Like That…’

"The level of intensity of it was a shock."

Ever since the original Sex And The City series, Kristin Davis has dealt with unfair and unsolicited ageism commentary about her appearance. And now, body shamers have returned for And Just Like That… and Davis is having none of it.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, Davis—who plays Upper East side dweller Charlotte York—spoke up about the nonstop commentary over her and her costars’ appearances in the reboot, despite it being almost two decades since the original series concluded.

“Everyone wants to comment, pro or nay or whatever, on our hair and our faces and our this and our that,” Davis told the publication. “The level of intensity of it was a shock. I feel angry and I don’t want to feel angry all the time, so I don’t look at it. I just know it’s there.”

Davis also elaborated on how comments on her appearance aren’t a new mental mountain to climb. In fact, she and her co-stars, Cynthia Nixon and Sarah Jessica Parker, have dealt with comments on how they look back since the original run of Sex And The City in the late ’90s and early ’00s.

“They would write articles every week about how I was ‘pear-shaped,’ which I didn’t feel was a compliment at the time,” she explained.

“It would stress me out a fair amount because I couldn’t avoid it. I kind of feel like that’s how it is now too. But I also feel—I’m going to be blunt—I feel like, ‘F–k you. F–k you people, like, come over here and do it better.’ You know what I mean? Like, what are you doing?”

Blaming social media for the sudden rise in commentary, Davis shared her concern over how easy it is to retain anonymous while hurling rude commentary at strangers.

“That’s the problem with social media, right, is that you don’t know what those people are doing,” she said. “You don’t know anything about them. They’re just hurling bombs at you. It makes me angry.”

Back in October, Sarah Jessica Parker also took a stand against ageist comments, diving into the double standards between men and women.

“There’s so much misogynist chatter in response to us that would never. Happen. About. A. Man,” Parker said at the time.

“‘Grey hair, grey hair, grey hair. Does she have grey hair?’ I’m sitting with Andy Cohen, and he has a full head of grey hair, and he’s exquisite. Why is it okay for him?

“I don’t know what to tell you people. Especially on social media. Everyone has something to say: ‘She has too many wrinkles, she doesn’t have enough wrinkles.’ It almost feels as if people don’t want us to be perfectly okay with where we are. As if they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better.

“I know what I look like. I have no choice. What am I going to do about it? Stop ageing? Disappear?”
