While Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux may have called it quits—and broke our hearts in the process—it turns out that their friendship is as strong as ever.
Ever since they announced their split back in 2018, Aniston and Theroux have clearly remained close, and now, they’re solidifying their friendship status with a new—and incredibly cuddly—photo.
On December 7, the duo joined forces on set for a live reading of an episode of the classic sitcom The Facts Of Life. During their rehearsal, Theroux and Aniston posed for a picture while they were cuddling and simultaneously photo-bombed by their co-star Ann Dowd. Theroux captioned the hilariously adorable photo, “Anne [sic] sandwich”, on his Instagram Stories.
Given Hollywood’s history, the pair had one of the most pleasant splints from memory. Theroux and Aniston tied in the knot in 2015, but announced their separation in February 2018, just days after the actresses’ 49th birthday. The couple’s decision to split “was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year,” they told Associated Press at the time.
In their first statement announcing their breakup, the former couple said, “We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
“I would say we’ve remained friends,” Theroux told Esquire in 2014. “Like it or not, we didn’t have that dramatic split, and we love each other. I’m sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship.”
“We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship,” he added. “Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard. She’s a hilarious person. It would be a loss if we weren’t in contact, for me personally. And I’d like to think the same for her.”
But that wasn’t the only time that Theroux has opened up about his and Aniston’s split.
“It was heartbreaking,” he told The New York Times in 2018 . “Only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day. But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of.”
Theroux also noted that he and Aniston have “remained friends” and even though they don’t “talk and text every day”, they do FaceTime each other. So there’s that, here’s hoping that the pair stay friends for many more years to come.
