James Corden Was Banned From A NYC Restaurant, Now The Internet Wants To Cancel Him

The rumour mill is running rampant.

On October 17, James Corden came under fire after a New York restaurateur publicly banned the talk show host from his restaurant, after claims that Corden was his “most abusive customer” in the venue’s 25 years of service. And now, other rumours allegedly about Corden have resurfaced.

Taking to Instagram, Keith McNally—the owner of famous New York City restaurant Balthazar—publicly slammed Corden, calling him “a tiny cretin of a man”. In the accusations, McNally addressed two detailed manager reports of the Carpool Karaoke star’s past behaviour when dining at the establishment and confirmed that he “86’d” Corden, which is believed to mean that he had been banned from the restaurant.

“James Corden is a Hugely gifted comedian, but a tiny Cretin of a man. And the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago,” the post read. “I don’t often 86 a customer, to today I 86’d Corden. It did not make me laugh.”

As for the supposed incidents in reference, McNally quoted the manager’s report which described events—one in June and the second in early October of this year—where Corden reportedly expressed his distaste with his meal. During this meal, McNally claims that Corden was disrespectful toward his wait staff, who were “very apologetic”.

“In June, James Corden was here on table 61. (Although this is diabolical, it happens very occasionally in all restaurants.) After eating his main course, Corden showed the hair to Balthazar manager G. who was very apologetic.”

He continued, “Corden was extremely nasty to G, and said: ‘Get us another round of drinks this second. And also take care of all of our drinks so far. This way I write any nasty reviews in yelp or anything like that’”.

“James Corden was at Balthazar with his wife on October 9th for brunch,” the second manager’s report stated. “He asked for a table outside. Brunch Maitre D’ Allie Wolters took the party to table 301.”

According to the second manager’s report, Corden’s next apparent incident at Balthazar involved an incorrect egg yolk omelette and side dish.

“Mr. Corden’s wife ordered an egg yolk omelette with gruyere cheese and salad,” the post read. “A few minutes after they received the food, James called their server, M. K. and told her there was a little bit of egg white mixed with the egg yolk. M. K. informed the floor manager, G. The kitchen remade the dish but unfortunately sent it with home fries instead of salad.”

But it was at this point that McNally claimed Corden began raising his voice at the server.

“That’s when James Corden began yelling like crazy to the server: ‘You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelette myself!’,” the report continued. “M.K. was very apologetic and brought G. over to the table.”

“He returned the dish, and after that, everything was fine. He gave them promo Champagne glasses to smooth things out,” McNally said. “G. said that Corden was pleasant to him but nasty to the server.’ M.K. was very shaken, but professional that she is, continued to finish her shift.”

Not long after the post went live on Instagram, his claims against Corden went viral with people sharing their reactions in the comment section and on Twitter.

“I thought it’s been common knowledge for years that James Corden is an absolute pr–k,” one Twitter user wrote, while another joked, “James Corden banned from Balthazar let’s do movie musical adaptations next”.

However, just six hours after McNelly’s post, he returned to Instagram to share that Corden had called him and “apologised profusely” after reading his prior post. McNelly went onto add that he’s decided to give him another chance.

“James Corden just called me and apologised profusely. Having f–ked up myself more than most people, I strongly believe in second chances,” he wrote in a separate Instagram post. “So if James Corden lets me host his Late Late Show for nine months, I’ll immediately rescind his ban from Balthazar.”

“No, of course not. But… anyone magnanimous enough to apologise to a deadbeat layabout like me (and my staff) doesn’t deserve to be banned from anywhere,” he continued. “Especially Balthazar. So Come Back to the five & Dime, Jimmy Corden, Jimmy Corden. All is Forgiven. xx”

The Reddit AMA About A Plane Ride, A Crying Baby, A Writers Guild Meeting And A Dinner Date with Harry Styles

Others online began to contribute to the court of public opinion, sharing past allegations and personal experiences of Corden’s apparent behaviour.

For example, Corden took part in a Reddit AMA where he would be present on the forum page to answer questions from fans. Instead, the forum was flooded with accusations about the talk show host, claiming that he attended a Writers Guild meeting years ago and asked for less pay for up-and-coming writers. To add insult to injury, another claim that went viral online was that Corden ignored his wife and child while on a plane.

According to the Reddit user, they witnessed the Late Late Show host take his seat in first class while on a plane. As he sat down, a woman carrying a crying baby sat down next to him. They claim that Corden ignored the crying baby, putting on headphones and kept to himself for the rest of the flight. However, once the plane landed, the woman with the crying baby began struggling with her luggage, and it was then that she reportedly called him out for not helping her. It turns out, the woman was supposedly his wife, who’d been carrying his baby.

But that wasn’t all, another user in the AMA forum claimed to have sat next to Corden and Harry Styles at Manchurian Legends restaurant in London in 2013. When there, the user accused him of treating the venue’s wait staff terribly.

“We didn’t bother you but you […] treated the waitstaff like sh-t and when one of my party politely suggested you calm down, you got really aggressive and threatening,” the user said. “So my question is this; why did Harry seem so cool, while you were such a massive throbbing bellend?”

A Story About Conan O’Brien’s Disdain For Rudeness And Jimmy Kimmel’s Interesting Question

On Twitter, the disdain for Corden is rather similar, with one user recalling a story that compared the actions of former talk show host Conan O’Brien to Corden. According to the user, O’Brien fired a member of his own team after he witnessed them be rude to staff.

“At CONAN there was a crew member who was fired because Conan witnessed him being impatient and rude to a server at a restaurant,” Twitter user @toddlevin wrote. Just remembering that now, for no particular reason.

In another resurfaced moment from 2016, the internet drew attention to a moment when the British comedian couldn’t name a single member of his staff. Taking part in his show’s ‘Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts’ game with fellow talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel, he was asked to name members of his own camera crew, who looked on at him expectantly. Surprisingly, Corden seemed to be unable to do so.

“Name two of the cameramen in this room,” Kimmel asked Corden from across the table. “That is a great question,” Corden laughed, adding, “It’s a different crew tonight, actually”.

And while the internet has already solidified their opinion on Corden, whether the stories about him are true or not, the talk show host has previously addressed his “intoxication” with fame.

In a 2020 interview with the New Yorker, the Cats star admitted that after the success of British sitcom Gavin & Stacey, the effect of the sudden fame saw him retreat to therapy to keep him from becoming “a brat”.

Revealing that friends and family members called him out for his behaviour at the time, Corden even admitted that his Gavin & Stacey co-star Rob Brydon sat him down for a chat about the rumours he’d heard.

“I started to behave like a brat that I just don’t think I am,” Corden told the publication. “It’s so intoxicating, that first flush of fame. And I think it’s even more intoxicating if you’re not bred for it.”

Brydon also recollected the moment he confronted his former co-star about his behaviour, telling the New Yorker, “I said, ‘Look, this is a bit awkward to say, but I’m just hearing these things about you, and you’ve got to know that the way you behave has an effect on people’.”
