While the world is used to witnessing the royals curtsying or waving at crowds, it turns out that they also enjoy switching on some popular tunes for a groove.

Two royals in particular, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, apparently are most likely to take to the dance floor, after Idris Elba revealed what songs the pair requested for their 2018 wedding reception.

As royals fans would know, footage of their royal nuptials concluded after the ceremony—and customary horse and carriage ride to greet fans. But the world is yet to know how hard the pair, and their guests, celebrated at their reception held at Frogmore House.

Actor Idris Elba, who deejayed at the royal event, spoke on BBC’s 1Xtra Rap Show about the reception and revealed some of the songs that the wedding party enjoyed the most, which included a surprising rap song that was personally requested by the Duchess of Sussex.

Elba confirmed the music choices after radio show host Tiffany Calver asked him, “what is the vibe of a Harry and Meghan wedding? What tune was the one that got everyone going crazy?”, as per People.

According to Elba, guests naturally “went off” when he started playing the Whitney Houston hit, “I Want To Dance With Somebody”—which was apparently played during Harry and Meghan’s first dance. But Markle was the most excited to hear Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s iconic anthem “Still D.R.E”. According to Elba, the latter was “Meghan’s choice”.

Back in 2019, Elba sat down for a separate 1Xtra interview, where he hinted at what the newlywed’s set list included.

“A lot of tunes went off. You know, Meghan sent me a playlist,” Elba said at the time, adding, “there was some West Coast on it”.

In an interview with the Daily Mail last year, the actor-turned-DJ also opened up about taking his job as the royal family’s music master very seriously.

“This wasn’t like my cousin’s wedding,” he said. “This [reception] wasn’t at the community hall. […] This was a big, big deal. […] They’re good friends and I wanted to make sure they had a great time, so there was a lot of pressure.”

“It was a huge dance party, everyone was letting loose and had a blast,” an insider told People about the night, adding, “Just a fun night and not stuffy at all”.

So, in case you thought the royals didn’t have the same Spotify track list as us regular folk, think again. Alexa, play “Still D.R.E.”.
