The Guests That Broke The Royal Wedding Dress Code

How very dare they

Few institutions have more rules than the British royal family: from what nail polish women can wear to how messy their hair can be, there seems to be strict protocol in place for just about everything.

That extends, of course, to guests attending a royal wedding. For Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day, men were given the option of military uniform, morning or lounge suit; women were required to wear a below-the-knee ‘day dress’ with hat and closed-in shoes.

But alas, many guests chose to ignore the royal wedding’s dress code. Below, the people on the Queen’s black list right now:

Oh, Beatrice. Usually never one to turn down the chance to wear an elaborate, extravagant hat, she skewed too far the opposite way on the weekend’s royal wedding and wore no hat at all. Instead, she opted for a blue headband – and royal lookers-on were not impressed.

Newly engaged Princess Eugenie also made a royal fashion faux pas, wearing a short shift dress that didn’t cover her knees. Tut, tut.

It pains us to say this, but Victoria Beckham’s glamorous look wasn’t technically appropriate, given its dark navy hue. Black is an absolute no-no at royal weddings (too funereal), and this edged dangerously close for a daytime wedding.

Same goes for Suits star Sarah Rafferty (you know her best as Donna), whose deep navy Lanvin dress was more suited to an evening event, as far as royal protocol is concerned.

British model/TV presenter Chloe Madeley, who is engaged to English rugby union player James Haskell, shocked onlookers in a revealing spaghetti strap dress with plunging neckline deemed inappropriate for a church wedding.

British singer Joss Stone, a friend of Prince Harry’s,  threw caution to the wind in a white (albeit patterned) day dress, which also committed the sartorial sin of falling above the knee.
