Yesterday, the Duke and Duchess came under fire for taking a private jet to Nice, France for their second European getaway this month with people slamming the couple for opting to fly private and saying the choice contradicts their environmental work.
Following the reports, Elton John released a lengthy statement on social media, revealing that he and his partner David had paid for the jet so the family of three could travel to stay at his house with maximum protection. “I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death,” he continued.
Following on from the musician’s statement, Ellen Degeneres has added her voice to the royal couple’s growing number of celebrity endorsements, explaining that she found Harry and Meghan to be “down-to-earth” and “compassionate people” and asking her followers to imagine what it must be like to be “attacked” for your every move.
“Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation. They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better,” the comedian wrote on Twitter.
Yesterday, Pink also came out to support Harry and Meghan, writing on Twitter that “The way people treat [Meghan] is the most public form of bullying I have seen in a while.”
