Ellen DeGeneres Reportedly Wants To End Her 17-Year-Old Daytime Talk Show

"The truth is she knew what was going on—it's her show"

While The Ellen DeGeneres Show is one of the most successful talk shows of all time, it was initially developed in 2003 after comedian Ellen DeGeneres was “at rock bottom and out of money, with no work in sight”, according to People.

Six years prior, DeGeneres came out on her eponymous sitcom, receiving so much backlash from her industry that she no longer had much of a career. However, almost two decades later, the comedian has become one of the most famous women in Hollywood, having hosted major celebrities like former president Barack Obama and the entire Kardashian family, to name a few.

But it seems that DeGeneres’ long-running show may be finally coming to an end, and not for a good reason. On August 14, The Daily Mail reported that the host is thinking of ending her program, following the endless allegations of racism and sexual assault among her staff.

“She feels she can’t go on and the only way to recover her personal brand from this, is to shut down the show,” the source said. “The truth is she knew what was going on—it’s her show. The buck stops with her. She can blame every executive under the sun but Ellen is ultimately the one to blame.”

In a letter to her staff, DeGeneres previously addressed the allegations with the following note, which read:

“As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly some didn’t.” She continued: “That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.”

Neither DeGeneres nor Warner Bros. have commented on what will happen to the specific employees who are accused. However, a source has told The Hollywood Reporter that Ed Glavin, one of the show’s executive producers, is among the group whose employment will be terminated.

“Once he’s out, it will be like a new day,” the source said.

In the meantime, celebrities from all over Hollywood are continuing to share their support for DeGeneres, much to the public’s dismay.
