Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have welcomed a fourth child into the world.
The couple’s newest addition, a baby boy named Wren Alexander Stephens, arrived via surrogate on Monday June 19.
Teigen confirmed the news with an Instagram post, which read:
“We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra. And we are so happy to tell the world he is here, with a name forever connected to you, Wren Alexander Stephens.
“Our hearts, and our home, are officially full. And to our Jack, we know both their angel kisses are from you.”
On the same Instagram post, Teigen revealed that the couple reached out to a surrogacy agency in 2021 with the intention of having to tandem surrogates. Instead, Teigen became pregnant with their daughter, Esti via IVF. Not long after becoming pregnant, the couple met their “incredible, loving, compassionate” surrogate, who became pregnant with their son.
The couple kept this pregnancy relatively quiet in comparison to their daughter Esti, whose pregnancy they announced on Instagram.
On August 4, the model shared sweet news on her Instagram by posting two mirror selfies of herself sporting a black T-shirt and sheer Gucci underwear to show off her growing baby bump.
In the caption, the 36-year-old opened up about her experience with IVF treatment, explaining that it took her quite some time to get over the anxiety of announcing a pregnancy.
“The last few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again. 1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way,” she wrote. “Every appointment I’ve said to myself, ‘ok if it’s healthy today I’ll announce’ but then I breathe a sigh of relief to hear a heartbeat and decide I’m just too nervous still.”
She concluded, “I don’t think I’ll ever walk out of an appointment with more excitement than nerves but so far, everything is perfect and beautiful and I’m feeling hopeful and amazing. Ok phew it’s been very hard keeping this in for so long!”
“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before. We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough,” Teigen wrote on the Instagram post announcing the loss.
“We never decide on our babies’ names until the last possible moment after they’re born, just before we leave the hospital. But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us. Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever.”
At the time, Legend publicly praised his wife for opening up about their heart-wrenching loss.
“What I learned through that process was, first of all, how often this happens to so many other families around the world,” he said in an interview with CBS This Morning, as per People.
“We felt a real sense of community by sharing it with other people. They felt seen by us, we felt seen by them, and I think it helps everyone deal with their grief when they know that there are other people out there who are feeling it.”
