As we enter a new year, it’s only fitting that a new on-screen crush has surfaced. This time, it’s in the form of Bridgerton‘s breakout star, Regé-Jean Page, who plays the dashing Duke of Hastings.
And while we eagerly await a second season of the Regency-era romance, Page’s latest social media activity has caused quite a stir, if you will.
Because of this, fans have gone wild over what they believe to be a clue that Page may be hinting at a new role as the next James Bond.
In a Twitter post back on December 17, Page posted a teaser for the show’s first season along with a rather telling caption, saying:
“Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred.”
Bond fans may be able to recall the protagonists famous drink order of a martini that’s, yes, “shaken, not stirred”.
And as its common knowledge that Daniel Craig, the current 007, is set to make his final on-screen performance as the spy in No Time To Die, there needs to be someone to fill his shoes. And if the internet’s suspicions are correct, Page would become the first Black James Bond in the franchise’s history.
“I’m so unabashedly in love with this man,” one commenter said. “Regé-Jean Page or Henry Golding for James Bond.” With another adding, “They missed Regé-Jean Page in the 100 Most Handsome Men 2020 list. He could be the new James Bond…”
And in the first positive news of 2021, the odds may be in Page’s favour to score the role. According to Variety, British betting site Ladbrokes has Tom Hardy in the top spot, with James Norton close behind in second place.
“Tom Hardy still leads the way as favourite, with James Norton close behind in second place. But it really is all to play for in the race for 007, and RJP has a great chance if the odds are anything to go by,” Ladbrokes representative Alex Apati revealed.
In the meantime, all we can do is rewatch Bridgerton and hope that the Duke goes from gentlemen suitor to international man of mystery.
