And now this time, the ‘Bridgerton’ star is asking her own fans to hold back their commentary on her body, revealing that she endures it on a daily basis.

Taking to Instagram, Coughlan acknowledged that while most of the comments are made with good intentions, she still would rather not receive them all together.

“Anyways here’s a pic of me in my hotel in NY about to go to SNL, it’s unrelated to this post but delighted with my hair in it.”

In 2018, the 35-year-old actor wrote an op-ed for The Guardian about her feelings toward being criticised over her body, after people were paying more attention to her figure rather than her performance on Netflix’s ‘Derry Girls’.

“I am not someone who cannot handle criticism, but if I wanted to read cruel things about myself I’d head to YouTube’s comments section under a ‘Derry Girls’ video and fill my boots (it truly is the armpit of the internet),” she wrote.

“Everything I’d done to create my character had been reduced to a hurtful word and casual comment on my appearance.

“I know I’m not alone; women in my industry are put under constant scrutiny for their looks […] Something in our society tells us that women’s bodies are fair game for scrutiny in a way that men’s simply are not.”

Fans of Coughlan can watch her reprise her iconic role as Penelope Featherington in ‘Bridgerton‘ season two, returning to Netflix on March 25, 2022.
