Then, there are the countless memes that slot the word ‘Padam’ in any major pop culture moment for comedic effect. Unofficial internet meme dictionary site, Know Your Meme, explains this as the “using the term ‘padam’ out of context” meme. (Given Kylie’s extensive LGBTQI following, a lot of the memes intersect with other prominent gay fanbases, like RuPaul’s Drag Race and Real Housewives.)

However, the meme supreme appears to be fitting the song to all manner of dance numbers. From TV shows, like Malcolm In The Middle and Buffy to icons like Hilary Duff and Cate Blanchett, it appears every dance number fits with Kylie’s ‘Padam Padam’.

Kylie launched her new single on May 21, accompanied by a music video drop and a debut live performance on American Idol.

‘Padam Padam’ is the first single of her new album, Tension. The single’s curious name pays tribute to French songstress Édith Piaf, who had a hit of the same name in 1951. The words are intended to describe the sound of a beating heart.

Tension is Kylie’s 16th studio album, and her first since 2020’s Disco. While the first track is a firm electro bop, Kylie has remarked there will be no theme to the album. So, if this hypnotic dance banger is not to your taste, there may be more flavours afoot for a broad Kylie fanbase.
