In January this year, Adele took to social media to share the tear-filled news that she would be cancelling her highly-anticipated ‘Weekends with Adele’ residency at the Caesars Palace casino, citing that the show wasn’t ready due to COVID-19 related delays.

Now, in a new interview with BBC’s ‘ Desert Island Discs’, Adele addressed the backlash and criticism that she received after her postponement.

“I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and I was frightened about letting them down,” the star said.

“I was a shell of a person for a couple of months. I just had to wait it out and just grieve it, I guess, just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal,” she added.

Adele also elaborated on her decision to postpone the residency in the first place, explaining “I thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision”.

“I’m not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we’re going to lose loads of money. I’m like, the show’s not good enough,” the 34-year-old explained.

The star had initially postponed the residencies, mere days before the first concert was due to take place, leading to the outpouring of anger and disappointment from fans who spent thousands on tickets and flights.

While Adele is still yet to confirm when the residency will take place, the star did finally return to the stage over the weekend in her hometown of London.

Appearing at her Hyde Park concert, Adele donned a haute-couture Schiaparelli creation by Daniel Rosebery. Featuring a plush velvet halter neck design and sequin slip, if this dress is anything to go by then Adele is back, better than ever and ready for action.

Speaking to the audience, Adele revealed her trepidation returning to the stage. “It’s so strange to be in front of a crowd again. I get so nervous before each show but I love being up here,” the star said.
