Lucy Hale Makes The Case For Cargo Pants

Utility chic

Cargo pants might not be your first pick of 2000s trends worth reviving, but a quick look at recent runways confirms they’re well and truly coming back. Enter, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale.

Spotted grabbing coffee in Los Angeles on April 3, Hale looked all the part an extra in a Destiny’s Child film clip, sporting khaki coloured cargo pants and a white tank singlet. Complete with a cross strap bag, Hale was certainly ready for action.

Once relegated to daggy dads and American tourists sightseeing on Sydney Harbour, cargo pants are having a serious moment. A quick look at last year’s spring ‘19 runways and February’s autumn/winter 2020 season confirms it, with designers like Isabel Marant, Prabal Gurung and even Ralph Lauren getting in on the multi-pocketed, ever so baggy pant trend. Khaki, black and even pink versions made their way down the international runways, later popping up all over the street and on some of the world’s biggest celebrities.

Models Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid and Hailey Bieber are fans, with Kaia Geber even sporting a camo pair. The ultimate throwback? It might be.

Best styled with a fitted T-shirt or chunky knit, Hale’s take on the cargo trend is perfect for autumn: throw over a light jumper or trench in the mornings and remove once it heats up, voila! And for those who don’t want to go full cargo, starting with a simple boiler suit is the best way to get into the utilitarian trend. But let’s be honest, multiple pockets and room to breathe doesn’t sound so bad, does it?
