The Rhythm Section

Release date: January 31, 2020

Blake Lively surprised fans when she deleted all of her Instagram posts (yes, all Ryan Reynolds content disappeared) bar one on November 17.

The only post left on her grid? A still from the trailer for forthcoming film The Rhythm Section which the 32-year-old first posted on September 20 – the ultimate PR stunt.

A silver screen adaptation of the Stephanie Patrick thriller franchise, Lively takes on the role of Stephanie described an “ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction after her family is tragically killed in a plane crash”.

After discovering that the traumatic incident was not an accident as previously believed, she vows to seek revenge.

Jude Law stars alongside the actress in The Rhythm Section which sees The Handmaid’s Tale director, Reed Moreno, behind the camera.

“Stephanie is a survivor. She continues to test this in herself. Everything she puts herself through proves that,” Lively told Bustle

Seberg

Release date: January 10, 2020

Based on real life events, Kristen Stewart takes on the role of French actress Jean Seberg who swapped the starry Hollywood hills for a life committed to activism in thrilling biopic Seberg.

After finding fame in 1957 film Saint Joan, Seberg became the face of the New Wave movement courtesy of Jean-Luc Godard classic Breathless. Upon returning home, she lended her status to supporting causes including anti-Vietnam war protests and the civil rights movement.

But the former actress’ plight soon made a target for the FBI which launched a secret mission to capture her which included methods of stalking, tapping her phone and opening her mail.

Emma

Release date: February 14, 2020

The 19th century Jane Austen novel has been given yet another reboot and the trailer proves it could well be in the running to become our new favourite. 

The Focus Features remake sees Anya Taylor-Joy take on the titular role of Emma while The Crown fans will be pleased to see Josh O’Connor star alongside her, as he steps into young vicar Mr Elton’s polished shoes.

Mia Goth will also grace the screen as matched love interest Harriet Smith with other famous faces including Bill Nighy (Mr. Woodhouse), Johnny Flynn (George Knightley) and Miranda Hart (Miss Bates).

If that isn’t enough to steal our attention, the starry adaptation also has director and photographer Autumn de Wilde at the helm.

With Rodarte’s autumn/winter 18 look book and a bunch of Prada fashion films on her resume, the widely-cherished 1815 novel has undergone a Pinterest-worthy makeover.

Expect glorious rolling English countryside, candy-hued interiors and covetable frocks – a feast for every millennial’s eyes and iPhone lens.

For those not familiar with the plot (there’s still time to borrow a copy from your local library), the film follows the life of Emma Woodhouse, a “handsome, clever and rich” young woman keen to play mischievous matchmaker for the singletons of her village. 

But while she’s preoccupied with ensuring that close friend Harriet marries the local vicar – despite her infatuation with well-to-do farmer Robert Martin – the ever-charming Mr Knightley is pursuing Emma. Cue a tangled web of love, misconstrued romance and a whole load of meddling.

A Quiet Place 2

Release date: March, 2020

After the first film was met with rave reviews and plenty of shiny nominations, A Quiet Place 2 is currently in the works.

But director John Krasinski – who also stars in the 2018 flick – revealed that the latest installment will not be a direct sequel to the film and instead “the second book in a series of books” with the focus on another group of people surviving the mysterious alien invasion.

Despite the actor not reprising his role as Lee Abbott (spoiler alert!), his real-life wife Emily Blunt will return to the big screen as Evelyn once more alongside their onscreen children, Regan (Millicent Simmonds) and Marcus (Noah Jupe). 

Yes, please keep the popcorn chomping down to a minimum this time around.

Black Widow

Release date: April 30, 2020

A prequel to the existing Avengers movies, the 2020 film follows Russian spy and assassin Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) as she becomes superhero Black Widow.

The first standalone film in the Marvel franchise dedicated to the character is delightfully female-driven with Australian writer Cate Shortland at the helm while Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh also feature in the cast.

Legally Blonde 3

Release date: May 20, 2020

In one of the biggest announcements of the year, Reese Witherspoon confirmed rumours that she is set to reprise her most famous role of all time – Elle Woods.

The actress teased the news via Instagram in a clip which sees her lounging on a hot pink lilo floating in a pool.

“It’s true… #LegallyBlonde3,” the caption simply reads.

The third installment will see Witherspoon not only boast her lawyer’s briefcase, as the actress will also produce the film through her Hello Sunshine production company. Original producer Marc Platt and Platt Productions President Adam Siegel will join the team behind the cameras.

“Oh, it’s gonna be so fun!” Witherspoon told ET. “I got to go to a meeting the other day where we talked about all the new plot points and all the characters and some returning characters and some new characters. I mean, I got so excited just at the meeting. I was like, ‘This is gonna be good’.””

Further details on plot and cast have yet to be confirmed.

Steven Spielberg has pulled up a director’s seat for an upcoming West Side Story reboot.

In keeping with the world famous broadway musical, the tale details the rivalry between two New York gangs – the Jets and the Sharks.

Ansel Elgort of Baby Driver fame will take on the lead role while 17-year-old rising starlet Rachel Zegler is set to play his star-crossed lover in the forthcoming flick.
