Level Up Your Self-Care Routine With An ‘Everything Shower’

The internet’s latest obsession.

Every now and then, our self-care routine calls for something a little bit extra.

Enter, the ‘everything shower.’

Beyond the everyday basics of a lather and rinse, this growing wellness trend is taking over the internet, and it involves seriously levelling up your shower routine.

Below, everything you need to know about the everything shower, including the products worth investing in to elevate your bathroom ritual.

Coined by TikTok, an everything shower is the equivalent of a self-care to-do list.

Usually taken on a Friday or Sunday night, in preparation for a big weekend or the week ahead, it involves checking off just about anything you can in the shower, from full-body hair removal (if that’s your cup of tea), to scalp scrubs and hair masks.

Importantly, the effort involved in this level of self-care is not lost on the TikTok girlies.

While you might feel silky smooth and rejuvenated when the routine is over, videos are filled with everything shower devotees complaining of the physical toll the effort of an everything shower can take.

Perfectly summarising this unique paradox, one user commented, “it’s so mentally and physically draining, yet so refreshing and rewarding once it’s done.” We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

Before The Shower

Believe it or not, the preparation for an everything shower starts before you turn the tap on.

First things first, make sure you’ve put enough time aside for the ritual ahead. We suggest at least an hour to avoid feeling rushed.

Next, set the scene for relaxation by laying out your favourite pyjamas, queuing a mellow playlist, and lighting your favourite candle. You could even hang some eucalyptus from the shower head for a boost of natural fragrance.

If you’re looking for something truly pampering, this would also be the time to reach for a dry body brush or gua sha. The perfect pre-shower ritual, these are designed to exfoliate and boost circulation.

During The Shower

Now’s the time to pull out the products and tools you don’t have the time for every day.

If shaving is for you, prep your skin with an all-over exfoliating scrub. Once rinsed off, reach for your razor, and expect your smoothest results yet.

When it comes to hair care, start with a detoxifying shampoo before reaching for your regular formula. You might also choose to follow this step with a scalp scrub and scalp brush, designed to exfoliate and stimulate the hair follicles for fuller, faster growing hair. Then, switch out your regular conditioner for a hair mask, which you can leave to work on your locks while you move onto the rest of your routine.

Finish your shower by cleansing your face. Start with a balm or oil-based cleanser to remove any makeup or debris from the day before. Then, follow up with a foaming cleanser to gently brighten your complexion and unclog pores.

After The Shower

Now it’s time to lock in all that hard work with an emollient moisturiser. If you’ve opted to shave during your shower, look for a rich, soothing formula, to soothe any potential irritation. If you’re planning on following up your shower with fake tan, you might choose to skip this step.

Next, turn your attention to your skincare routine. Once you’ve applied your regular products – think serum, moisturiser, and eye cream – treat your face to a little TLC with a face mask. If your skin is on the dryer side, look for a richer, hydrating formula. And for oilier complexions, ingredients like salicylic acid are your new best friend.

Now, the everything shower is finally over, and it’s time to bask in your results. Slip your pyjamas over your baby-smooth skin and enjoy the benefits of all that hard work… until next time!
