Meet the Vitamin A Skincare Suitable For Even the Most Sensitive Skin

And your step-by-step guide to how to use it.

When it comes to our skincare routines and regimes, Vitamin A (and its most common derivative, retinol) is arguably the most active and effective ingredient for minimising the visible signs of ageing, such as fine lines and wrinkles, sagging, loss of firmness and pigmentation. And it doesn’t stop there. It’s also the go-to ingredient for a slew of other skin concerns, such as addressing blemishes, congestion, breakouts, and for promoting hydration and a healthy radiant glow. It ticks plenty of boxes.

But if you’ve never used a retinol product before it’s easy to become confused—and overwhelmed—on how and when to use this powerful ingredient, especially if your skin is sensitive. Factor in redness, dryness and flakiness and you might be put off using retinol altogether. But the good news is that there are gentler versions that are safe (and still deliver great results) for even the most challenging skin.

So, if you’re looking to incorporate retinol into your skincare routine, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s how you can use retinol without irritating your skin.

Step One: Don’t Skimp On Your Skin Prep

While it may sound like a no-brainer, you should always kick off your skincare routine with a thorough cleanse to ensure that the skin is free from any dirt or impurities. Not only will this ensure that your retinol has a clean base to work with but that the serum can work its magic and do what it does best. And on the note of cleansing, opt for a gentle cleanser.

It goes without saying that you never want a cleanser that dries out your skin or strips it of its natural oils, but this is even more important when your routine includes Vitamin A. Look for a cleanser that includes ingredients such as glycerine to support the skin’s barrier and restore moisture.

Step Two: Get Ready To Retinol

Once your skin has been properly cleansed and dried, it’s time for the fun part—applying your retinol! The Aspect Dr Hydra A Plus is a unique Vitamin A complex that’s designed to target signs of ageing while also hydrating and protecting the skin’s moisture barrier.

Featuring a collection of hydrators coupled with a unique blend of retinols to target signs of ageing, while protecting the skin’s moisture barrier function, the Hydra A Plus works to enhance and retexturise the skin.

Suitable for those traditionally sensitive to retinol, its cream-based blend helps to gently resurface the skin to visibly brighten and even skin tone, promoting a more youthful and radiant-looking complexion. Best applied at night-time, dispense 1 pump, and press onto skin every third night, gradually increasing to every second, then nightly.

Step Three: Make the Most Before Moisturising

As a highly potent ingredient, retinol should be left to properly absorb the skin before layering another product on top. Allow the product to soak into the skin (and work its magic) for at least 15 minutes before continuing with the rest of your routine. As retinol can increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun, make sure you use an SPF during the day and are diligent about your sun protection.
