Singer-songwriter Jess Mauboy can now add another job title to her impressive accomplishments: beauty entrepreneur. With hits like Little Things, Fallinโ and Burn, Mauboy could just sit back and pat herself on her back. But itโs not her style.
As the singer settles into motherhood with her new baby girl Mia โ who Mauboy revealed last week was born on 13 January this year โ she welcomes in another creation.
This week, Jessica Mauboy makes another big announcement with the launch of her new skincare brand, Desert Rose. Inspired by her childhood, the skin-caring face serum, is designed to help protect and nourish all skin types and tones.
Formulated with Australian botanicals at its heart, this new release was a labour of love and an ode to the singerโs Country. Kakadu plum, brimming with skin brightening vitamin C, is a key ingredient. As are skin-loving ingredients niacinamide, vitamin E and jojoba. A lightweight formula that feels dry to touch after application, this 50+ SPF goes well under makeup and wonโt leave a white cast on skin.

A proud Kuku Yalanji woman from the Northern Territory, Mauboy grew up surrounded by the vast beauty and the challenges that come with the Australian outdoors.
โI have allowed myself to come into my own skin over the years and whatโs closest to my heart is my childhood,โ Mauboy tells marie clarie. โGrowing up in Darwin, being a part of my community and being outdoors [is a big part of who I am]. I would ride my quad bike, swim in the water holes. I felt powerful, but I didnโt think about the sun.โ
โWhen I think about it now [I realise] Iโm paying for doing all that now,โ continues Mauboy. โSo I wanted something that would close the gap between protection and also skin care, I wanted it to feel like skin and work with my skin tone.โ
Becoming a mother and launching her brand has given Mauboy new insight.
โBeing amongst the [music] industry can sometimes be quite noisy,โ says Mauboy. โThereโs a lot of things that you can do and have access to [but I have realised that] if I loved myself and I nurtured myself on the inside, then Iโm able to have it work on the outside.โ
The singer credits meditation as a positive change in her life. โMeditation and saying [positive] things to myself, whether itโs in the mirror or itโs quietly, cross legged on the floor has helped.โ

What does the Australian star say to herself?
โI say things like โIโm kindโ, โIโm worthyโ, โI am lovedโ, โI loveโ,โ explains Mauboy. โI think itโs instilling kindness and instilling a sense of peace and patience. My job can absorb so much; I put a lot out, but I tend to not put a lot in. I make sure that I meditate every single time, whether itโs coming off the stage or going on the stage. Itโs giving that permission, being okay, being patient and being kind.โ
With so much going on in her life, we ask Mauboy what she sees as a highlight in her career so far.
โMusic has allowed me to be so connected with the rest of the world,โ she says. โWhether itโs through Zoom or whether itโs actually flying over to Europe to write music. I think thatโs the highlight of my life. Itโs being so connected through music with the world and with people.โ
Desert Rose launches in Australia on March 25, is reef friendly, cruelty free and made in Australia.
