Scrunchies Are Back! Just Ask Every New York It-Girl

No high ponytails allowed

Another day, another โ€˜90s trend ripe for a resurgence. Hot on the heels of bum bags, anklets and even (in the case of Bella Hadid at least) skinny eyebrows, the scrunchie has made its way to 2017.

But in the same way youโ€™d rock up to your high school reunion with a fresh blow-dry and a weekโ€™s juice cleanse behind you, the new scrunchie has had a revamp. One that comes courtesy of cult New York label Mansur Gavriel โ€“ the brand behind those bucket bags dominating your Instagram feed.

Presenting their first ever ready-to-wear fashion collection in Soho, the brand stayed true to its It-accessories roots, presenting lust-worthy new bags and โ€“ you guessed it โ€“ scrunchies galore.

โ€œWhen I heard scrunchie, I was like, โ€˜Ahhhhhh!โ€™ Itโ€™s my nightmare,โ€ the showโ€™s hair sylist, Bumble & Bumble global artistic director Laurent Philippon, told The Cut. โ€œBut actuallyโ€ฆ itโ€™s done in a very cool way.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s worn very low and broken so you just keep the hair over the ears and behind the shoulders,โ€ he says. โ€œYou tuck part of it behind the ear so itโ€™s a little messy.โ€

The Mansur Gavriel scrunchies are made from vintage Italian fabrics and sadly, are available exclusively from their New York City store. But weโ€™re sure you can find several in the back of a drawer at home.
