Scarlett Johansson Hops On The Celebrity Beauty Brand Bandwagon With ‘The Outset’

A 'clean' skincare brand built from her personal experiences.

From Jennifer Lopez’s JLo Beauty to Alicia Keys’ Keys Soulcare, there seems to be an endless parade of makeup or skincare brands celebrities have created, with some never having previously mentioned a love of beauty before.

And this time, Scarlett Johansson is joining the ranks.

The most recent famous face to shoot their shot in the beauty industry, the Black Widow actress is channelling her ambition into a ‘clean’ skincare line, The Outset.

According to an exclusive press release to WWD, the brand is backed by the Najafi Companies, which has also been behind Tracee Ellis Ross’s Pattern Beauty.

What Is Scarlett Johansson’s ‘The Outset’?

As for what the 37-year-old has named her latest venture, she recently revealed more about her brand, The Outset, in a series of Instagram posts.

Sharing about a dozen posts over the past 48 hours, they teach its audience exactly why Johansson decided to dip her toe into the industry.

“I’ve been the face of several luxury brands throughout my career, and all of those experiences were really wonderful,” she wrote.

“I guess I always felt that I was sort of playing a character in those campaigns, and as I evolved, I wanted to create and represent a brand that was true to me.”

Additionally, Johansson did speak out about the exciting announcement in an interview with Allure, explaining (very briefly) what is in the works.

“I created this brand to elevate clean, essential skin care,” she said. “This will be a brand for everyone who wants their skin to look its best with minimal effort.”

Surprising to some, Johansson is far from new to the beauty industry, having previously served as the face of L’Oréal Paris and a celebrity model for Dolce & Gabbana’s collection of ‘The One’ fragrances. But this time, Johansson is set to serve as a brand’s cofounder and chairman, rather than simply its ambassador.

“Several years ago, I took a step back from my beauty deals with the goal of creating something true to me,” she said in the press release.

Initially, the announcement stated that she’d operate the brand independently to ensure that she can be intimately involved in every aspect of the company from the ground up. However, since then, she’s announced her role as cofounder, alongside Kate Foster.

What Products Are In Scarlett Johansson’s ‘The Outset’?

Currently, not much else is known about the new venture, including where it will be available to purchase or what products will be included in the collection.

But what we do know is that the product range is built around Johansson’s personal experience with managing breakouts, dryness, and “the general maladies that come with many hours spent in the makeup chair and in front of the camera”. 

As for how it will differ from her A-list competitors? Well, just have to wait and see. 

When Will Scarlett Johansson’s ‘The Outset’ Be Released?

It’s set to launch on March 1, 2022, presumably on The Outset’s website. Whatever the release will entail, we can’t wait to see what comes next, so keep your eyes posted for any updates or announcements.
