The 8-year-old has a new look

What do the following celebrity mothers all have in common; Kim Kardashian, Jessica Simpson and Pink?

Answer: They have all come under fire for their parenting skills. This phenomenon is commonly known as mum-shaming. For the unversed, mum-shaming is criticizing or degrading a mother for her parenting choices because they differ from the choices the shamer would make.

Earlier this week, Simpson came under fire when she dip-dyed her daughter Maxwell’s blonde waves. Soon after posting the photo, critics appeared in the comments section. “What’re u doing she is so young now out there for all the wrong reasons,” wrote one commenter. Another said, “Why start ruining her hair so young?” While another attacked Simpson’s intelligence for her allowing her daughter to dye her hair.

It’s a familiar story for singer Pink, who isn’t afraid to aim at Instagram tolls and so-called “parenting police.” She also she just made a powerful statement in direct support of Simpson: giving her own daughter, eight-year-old Willow Sage, the same exact beauty treatment.

“I heard people were bummed on Jessica Simpson for letting her seven-year-old get her hair coloured,” she wrote. “So we thought we’d share what we did yesterday.”

Back in April, Pink (whose real name is Alicia Moore) told Ellen DeGeneres that she was done sharing photos or videos of her and husband Carey Hart’s two children. Her decision came after she was slammed for sharing a photo of her children playing with a pelican in which Jameson could be seen not wearing a diaper.

“People went as far as saying someone should call child services because he didn’t have a diaper on and how dare I … some of the nastiest things,” Pink told Ellen

“I cried so hard after that because I like to share my family. It’s my proudest moment. I’m prouder of my kids than anything I’ve done in my whole life.”

But that won’t happen anymore, according to the singer, because, “I just won’t share them anymore. I won’t do it. I’m not posting pictures of them anymore.”
