We may know her as Katarina Chapman on Home & Away, but Aussie Pia Miller is also making waves in the beauty world. Miller today announced her partnership with iconic French beauty brand Guerlain by way of an ethereal video directed by Gracie Otto. Miller chatted exclusively to marie claire to reveal how she feels about working with the brand, as well as her top beauty tips.
How did you come to be involved with Guerlain?
The opportunity to work with Guerlain came about very naturally. As a long-time admirer of their products, I was excited and honoured when they reached out to discuss how we could creatively collaborate. With most partnerships, there is generally a brief the brand needs to fulfil and typically not much input from the artist. However, with Guerlain, it was very much a collaboration – we worked together to create something that was very authentic to me. My managers and I set up a little creative workshop and co-produced a project I’ve always dreamed of doing – a short, beautiful commercial film that tells a story whilst also spotlighting a gorgeous product. I knew an incredible film maker and director was necessary to marry acting with the branding which is why Gracie Otto was an immediate choice. With Gracie (Otto) we developed the idea we had and together created AMOUR ET FLEURS.
How does it feel to be working with such an iconic brand?
It feels incredibly special. Guerlain has a long and prestigious history and the true art of creating fragrance has always been at the heart of the company. It was so important to me to capture and evoke that essence and show how their beautiful products enhance a woman’s sense of self. To be the first Australian to collaborate with Guerlain this way is a genuine thrill for me.
What was the inspiration behind the film?
We wanted to create something fresh that would stand out amongst other social media film work. Our inspiration from the beginning was the mood of Seventies French film with a nod to Australia through the colours and styling. We decided to portray a strong woman, in her own private space, sending and receiving love letters but without knowing for whom they are intended. Handwritten letters, particularly when we are tied up in a world of iPhones and technology, evoke a sense of true intimacy and timeless romance. The film is broken up into vignettes via the kaleidoscopes which was Gracie’s idea – the four kaleidoscopes represent the four main notes of the iconic Mon Guerlain Florale EDP Fragrance (Jasmine, Vanilla, Lavender and Peony). Our intention with this film is that it inspires women to take time for themselves and surround themselves with what they personally find truly beautiful.
What is your favourite thing about the brand?
The Bee! This is Guerlain’s emblem and is woven throughout the brand and their products. It is such a deeply romantic, sophisticated and historic company. To become a thread in their story feels a little like stepping into a fairytale.
What are your go-to makeup products?
A good 50+ SPF tinted sunscreen for an important base, Guerlain Terracotta Bronzer for a beautiful glow, MAC eyeliner in Coffee, Guerlain Rouge G lipstick in both their signature Red for the evening and Rose Glacé for the day time (which I wore in the film) and a perfect mascara (Cils D’Enfer) is important to finish off any look.
What is your signature scent?
I change my scent based on the day, whether it’s morning or evening and my mood influences it a lot too, but at the moment, it’s Mon Guerlain EDP (The original – I love it as a night time fragrance) or Mon Guerlain Florale EDP([for] everyday), of course.
Do you have a beauty philosophy?
Beauty starts on the inside, so look after yourself but don’t forget to indulge from time to time. When it comes to products – keep it simple. Less is more. This applies to any skincare regime as well as makeup.
Who is your ultimate beauty inspiration?
There are so many women that inspire me, but I can’t go past my Ma. She’s beautiful inside and out, the epitome of strength and doesn’t look a day over 50. She’s always kept it simple and it certainly shows.
