Ever wondered how long it really takes your favourite celebrities to get glam ahead of a big event? “I generally start getting ready much earlier than I need to – just to avoid any unnecessary stress,” reveals Playing For Keeps actress Olympia Valance of her pre-red carpet ritual.
“Music is a must too, it just sets the tone and keeps my energy high.” Take the Logies, where Olympia stunned in a dress by J’Aton Couture, Olympia’s hairstylist Brodie-Lee Tsiknaris and make-up Chantelle Baker team created “a sleek super sleek low play on a modern textured bun” and modern bronze smokey look in approximately an hour.
“The most important thing for me is to remember to relax and just to enjoy every moment – I think having a good team of people who lift you up and make you feel like your best, most powerful and confident self is key,” the former Neighbours star adds.
The L’Oreal Professionnel ambassador is sharing her beauty and wellness commandments; from the hair treatment, she swears by to her healthy diet and workout secrets.
What are your favourite hair and beauty treatments?
“A few days out I’ll book if for a facial just to give my skin a little lift, deep cleanse and extra glow. Healthy skin is a must for determining for a fresh, glowing finish – you just can’t fake that component.
When it comes to my hair, I’ve recently become a real convert of L’Oreal Professionnel’s Smartbond step 3 product – because my hair is coloured and is often at the mercy of hair dryers, tongs, straighteners, you name it – it’s made such a huge difference in keeping it feeling healthy and strong. Like, it truly WORKS. Like, really really REALLY. My hair feels better for me, and looks shinier and sparklier to everyone else! If I’m wearing my hair up, I’ll do this treatment the night before, and I’ll use it in the morning if I’m wearing my hair down.”
Which beauty products do you keep in your clutch?
“Once I’m ready I’m quite low key with touch ups as I don’t like to overthink anything too much so I can just relax and enjoy the night, so it’s normally just a gloss for my lips. At the moment I’m loving Mecca Max’s Glitter Bug – I’m using it for every event.”
How did you decide on your look for the night?
“Meggy Smith (my stylist and go to for everything) and I worked with J’Aton this year. Last year’s look was incredibly dramatic, which I absolutely loved, so this year we wanted there to be a contrast. Everything was stripped back. The dress had an ethereal quality, with exquisite, subtle details. J’Aton are just masterful couture makers and it was such a joy to wear something that was so beautifully constructed (and by two Australians). Every single detail was so thoughtfully considered and intricate. When I put it on the day of, it just felt like such an honour. I loved it beyond words.”

What does a typical day on a plate look like for you?
“Monday to Friday tends to always look relatively similar. I’ll start my day with an almond latte, and normally some eggs on toast. At the moment I’m filming and have crazy hours on set, so lunchtime will be served up by our caterers, however, it will always be something along the lines of chicken or fish, some rice and some salad.
“I come from a huge Greek family and cooking is something we absolutely love to do, so dinner will often be either something my Mum has made, like a leg of lamb and some roasted veggies. If I’m at home, my go-to is something simple like a steak with a simple Greek salad. It’s absolutely freezing in Melbourne at the moment, so my chicken soup and chicken curry recipes are getting a big workout too! Weekends I’ll tend to eat whatever I feel like. I’m an absolute Nando’s nut.. you just can’t beat a chicken wrap and some Peri Peri chips on a Sunday night.”
Do you amp your workouts up in the lead up to big events?
“I actually don’t! I’ve been with my trainer for a few months now and our routine rarely differs week to week. I feel like I’ve found a type of training that I love and that works for my body type, which just makes sticking with it so much easier. It’s honestly something I enjoy so the consistency is coming very naturally in a way it never has before. I think that’s the key – find something you really love and something you know you can maintain.”
Did you take a date this year?
“I hit the carpet with my Playing For Keeps ladies! We had a lot of fun – we’ve only just started filming again so the whole night just felt like a loved up a reunion for us.”
