With every new season comes an opportunity to start anew. The fall/winter 2019 collections at New York fashion week looked to the future while referencing iconic hair and make-up trends of decades past. To put it simply, classic is the new black.
Here, we revisit the standout beauty moments as seen at Zimmermann, Dion Lee, The Row, Tom Ford and more.
3.1 Philip Lim
Hairstylist Gary Gill put a modern spin on ‘crimping’ for the 3.1 Phillip Lim show, creating a textured fluffy style that offered plenty of movement as the models walked down the runway.
To get the look, Gary started with straight hair, parting it into two sections on either side of the front of the head and nine sections in the back, adding two pumps of Aveda Phomollient and a few sprays of Aveda Texture Tonic to each section. Each section was then braided, blow dried and flat ironed to “bake” the style in.
Dion Lee
The model’s hair and make-up encapsulated the spirit of the Dion Lee’s autumn winter 19 collection – tough, cool, yet, refined. Of the resulting looks, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director and ghd Fashion Week Ambassador, Eugene Souleiman shared backstage: “When it came to creating the hair looks, I didn’t really think about the collection… I thought about the girl who would be wearing those clothes… who the collection was designed for… that was my inspiration.”
The Row
For Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s latest runway offering hairstylist extraordinaire Eugene Souleiman created sophisticated hairstyles to perfectly complement The Row’s minimalist approach to style.
Zimmermann
Make-up artist Jodie Boland created an effortless smokey with a worn-in finish for the Australian designers highly anticipated runway show. Renya Xidis complimented the overall bohemian aesthetic with tousled relaxed waves.
Tom Ford
For the label’s Fall 2019 show, the order of the day was velvety smoky eyes and side-parted hair in a nonchalant bun. “It’s Tom’s kind of girl,” -make-up artist Diane Kendal shared backstage. For “powerful” eyes – as seen on Gigi Hadid – Kendal used a mix of Tom Ford eyeshadows in Eye Color Quad in 03 Nude Dip.
