The product

Finding a nude lipstick is no easy task. ‘Nude’ is supposed to refer to a shade that closely resembles our skin tone, but often when you search through a supposed ‘nude’ collection of lip colours, it’s rare to find shades that accommodate the full spectrum of skin tones around the world.

Where’s the inclusivity in that?

When we heard MAC Cosmetics were introducing 32 new nude lipstick shades to their already 200-plus shade range as part of the launch of their new Strip Down collection, we were thrilled.

And as the cherry on top, the shades are available in seven different textures so you can find not just your perfect nude, but also your favourite finish.

Our panel of Review Crew® testers put this product to the test.

The panel

Beauty Crew sent the MAC Lipstick to a panel aged between 18 and 35 with a diverse range of genders and skin tones, who were searching for their perfect nude lipstick. Each reviewer received a nude shade from the Strip Down collection that was tailored to their individual skin tone.

The verdict

“I received this MAC Lipstick in the shade Modesty. It is from the Cremesheen range and it felt beautiful on the lips. Modesty is a gorgeous nude colour that has a subtle pink undertone to it. It looks and feels like a high-quality lipstick. It is my main lipstick at the moment and I have been absolutely loving it. I have had lots of compliments on the colour and I feel like it suits my skin tone really well. I would recommend the MAC Cremesheen lipsticks as they feel nice on the lips, stay well, and keep your lips hydrated.”

“I received Velvet Teddy. This lipstick now stays permanently in my makeup bag. Its creamy velvet matte finish is so flattering and keeps lips nourished without the over shine. As such a universal shade, I use Velvet Teddy as an eyeshadow base colour, a natural tone blush, and of course, the perfect deep-tone beige lippy. The pigmentation and texture allow for such versatility that if I could give this product 10 stars, I would in a heartbeat.”

“I loved this lipstick, I got the colour Smoked Almond in Amplified Crème finish. That finish is so lovely and comfortable on the lips. It doesn’t dry them out, was nice and rich in colour. If I had to describe the colour, it’s like a rosy nude. Very flattering, good for looking dressed up but not too vampy. The MAC lipsticks are great quality.”
