We may not have as many RSVPs to send, but our desire to swipe on colour, embrace a little shimmer and have some fun is yet to wane. This summer, the mood calls for flattering classics — with a twist.
The New Red Lip
To update a perennial party classic, opt for crimson with subtle gold flecks. “The finish gives lips the appearance of volume and shine, without losing that modern satin finish,” says Victoria Baron, official makeup artist for Chanel Australia. Skip pencil and swipe straight from the bullet, finishing this night look with a wash of gloss on the cheeks and lids and lashings of mascara. For a stained effect, hydrate lips with sheer layer of lip balm and softly pat the bullet against lips.

Party Skin
To get into the celebratory spirit, start with effortlessly glowing skin. This season, flushed on-the-go apples have all the fun. After prepping skin with a gel-cream lotion to hydrate and plump skin, buff a light-coverage foundation like Chanel’s new essence foundation to provide a soft-focus effect with 12 hour wear, and touch up imperfections with concealer. To make your skin pop, Baron suggests sweeping a coppery-pink blush over cheekbones, and then dabbing a transparent highlighter under the brows and down the centre of the nose for party-ready radiance.

Golden Eye
Pull back on the full smoke this season with a gilty outlook that’s softer and prettier. To start, Baron brushed shimmering brown shadow into the sockets and along the outer lash line, and then applied a pale champagne shade to the inner corners and shimmering gold across the lids. A few coats of a lengthening and defining mascara completes the look, while lips can remain bare or get flush with a plum stain.

Glow Points
In happy news, one of the season’s prettiest party looks is the simplest too. Jocelyn Petroni, official manicure artist for Chanel, painted a single coat of the molten shade onto nails for a translucent sheen, which suits all skin tones and nail shapes, but recommends another layer for heavy-metal impact. To complement the pointers, Baron kept the mood effortless with a shimmering gold shadow across lids and gold-specked brick-red pressed lightly onto lips.

Quick Flick
Give your winged liner a modern twist, says Baron, by combining pink and black. To start, wash lids in a warm, coppery-pink hue, which flatters every skin tone we’ve ever tried it on. Then keep your liner long and low, extending it a little further than usual. To perfect the technique, Baron glides a fine-tip liquid eyeliner along the lash line from the inner corner to the outer corner, stretching towards the end of the brows. Don’t forget to curl lashes and groom brows to give your makeup that party-polish in moments.
