Introducing chrome nails: the latest beauty trend to take over the Internet.
This new craze comes via Born Pretty, a US based cosmetics store that have created a polish that actually resembles a mirrored surface. Apparently this varnish is so reflective, you can apply lipstick while using your nails as a mirror. (Perfect for those of us who are perennially running late…!)
Born Pretty polish isn’t available in Australia (though you can order online). However, you can get a similar effect using these five polishes:
1. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Lady T ($14.95)
This polish is on the darker end of the silver spectrum (read: borderline grey) and has a fine glitter throughout. We approve!
2. Formula X Transformer Top Coat in Asteroid ($12.50)
Being a topcoat, this Formula X varnish allows you to embrace silver without committing to the trend entirely. You can jazz up any colour – such as a red, plum or nude – with a few silver sprinkles. Voila!
3. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Celeb City ($5.56)
This Celeb City shade of Sally Hansen polish creates a similar effect to the Lady T lacquer mentioned above. However, Celeb City is a bit lighter and more ‘silvery’. (If you know what we mean.)
4. OPI Nail Lacquer in Take a Right on Bourbon ($19.95)
Here we have OPI Nail Lacquer in Take a Right on Bourbon, which the brand describes as ‘an intoxicatingly warm, metallic pewter.’.
This product has very fine reflective particles throughout and a lovely silver finish without being too glittery. While we may not have a mirror effect, it comes *very* close to the Born Pretty polish that (nearly) broke the Internet.
5. Rimmel London 60 Second Super Shine in Your Majesty ($5.95)
Another dark silver polish with a large helping of glitter. Being darker, it makes your nails sparkle while still looking quite adult.
Our pick of the bunch? OPI Nail Lacquer in Kyoto Pearl. While it may not be reflective enough to allow for a quick make-up fix up, it DOES give your nails a beautiful silvery shimmer.
