Keanu Reeves’ Girlfriend Alexandra Grant Explains Why She Doesn’t Dye Her Grey Hair

The artist addresses unrealistic beauty standards

Last month, Keanu Reeves and his girlfriend Alexandra Grant went viral when they casually held hands on the red carpet, confirming the first public relationship Reeves has had in 20 years.

Of course, the conversation wasn’t only around the world’s collective happiness for our internet boyfriend – we STAN – but also how uncommon it is to see man in Hollywood dating someone age appropriate. Reeves is still nine years Grant’s senior, may we add, but Grant’s stunning grey hair started a conversation about beauty standards and ageing, something the artist addressed overnight.

Sharing a study that found that using permanent hair dyes and chemical hair straighteners can result in a higher risk of developing breast cancer to Instagram, Grant revealed why she doesn’t choose to colour her hair. “Wow. Today’s news… The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of colour,” she wrote.

Grant went on to explain that she went grey prematurely in her early 20’s “and dyed my hair every colour along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes any more.”

“In my 30’s I let my hair turn ‘blonde,’” she continued.

“I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age. But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards… then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!”

‘Womxn’ is an intersectional term that is meant to be more inclusive of transgender women, non-binary individuals and women of colour.

One more time for the people in the back, Alexandra!
