Iris Law — the English model, actress and daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost — has amassed a following of nearly 700K followers on Instagram thanks to her enigmatic persona, savvy style and bleach-blonde pixie crop.
The head-turning platinum hairstyle, which the model did in May for her acting debut in miniseries Pistols, nearly broke the airways and instantly cemented Law’s It Girl status. Having worked in campaigns for Burberry Beauty, Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs, Law is now the latest face for Versace perfume Dylan Purple, joining the likes of marie claire favourites Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid.
Her latest? Working with Versace to launch their brand new fragrance, Dylan Purple. We caught up with the model to find out what it’s like working with Donatella Versace herself, and what we should be looking for in a signature scent.
Marie Claire: You’re Versace’s latest muse for the brand’s new scent Dylan Purple. What do you love about the fragrance?
Iris Law: I’m so honored to be one of Versace’s muses. When I heard Donatella chose me to be the face of… Dylan Purple, I totally felt in love with the project. The thing that I liked the most is that Dylan Purple perfectly reflects me and my personality, so I did not have to play that much on set, I just had to be myself.
MC: Donatella Versace defined you as gorgeous, smart and a little bit wild. Do you identify yourself in this description?
IL: Donatella’s words are gospel. Versace as a brand makes you feel empowered as a woman, feeling sexy is a result of that as well as working with amazing people whose creativity is at the heart of what they do.
MC: How does the Dylan Purple campaign represent you?
IL: Never in my wildest dreams could I only imagine I would be a Versace woman! The way they perfectly balance the combination of sexy, playful and stylish. Seeing the campaign still feels surreal. I have so much respect for Donatella and the Versace house. I think Versace Dylan Purple represents all women and I feel this is represented in the campaign
MC: How should your ideal fragrance be?
IL: Iconic, unforgettable, and unique.
MC: What smell reminds you of something or someone special?
IL: The salty warm smell of the beach reminds me of so many beautiful moments: childhood, friends, family and now also takes me back to shooting the campaign. The most special moment.
MC: What does it mean today choosing a fragrance?
IL: Today more than ever it is so important to choose the fragrance to wear. People want to express themselves in every way they can. Dylan Purple is a very distinctive fragrance, joyful with a young peppery facet.
MC: What was it like creating the campaign?
IL: The experience of the Dylan Purple campaign was so amazing and a memory I will cherish forever. We spent three days on the most beautiful beaches of Mexico with the most incredible creative team. I have so much time and respect for these teams that work so hard to get things perfect. Seeing the creatives vision come to life is always magic to me. I would love to do it all over again!
MC: You have joined Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber as Versace faces (Dylan Blue and Dylan Turquoise respectively). How do you feel being in their company?
IL: I do not think that people can compare me, Bella and Hailey. We are three different women, each one with her personality expressing a different way of life and woman. I represent a generation, full of life and hope, Hailey represents the sophistication of women expressed by Versace Dylan Turquoise and Bella the elegance of women expressed by Versace Dylan Blue. Of course, Dylan Purple, Dylan Turquoise and Dylan Blue (and so me, Hailey and Bella) have something in common: we represent the escape towards faraway islands.
MC: What are your thoughts on Gen Z?
IL: I have mixed feelings about Gen Z. I feel we have so much responsibility for this world we live in and so much to prove! I am excited by change and championing it however I feel like there is an element of Gen Z which doesn’t represent this, and I would hate to think people ever thought I didn’t care!
I would define this scent as a real tribute to my generation. At the heart it has essential values: quality and sustainability. They sourced out ingredients in a responsible way, think about local communities, and use natural and biodegradable elements. These are all parts of the generation I want to champion.
MC: What is next for you in 2023?
IL: I am working on so many things I feel like it’s hard to put into words, and most of which I am not allowed to talk about. 2023 is a big year for me!
