Given that it’s one of the most searched-for hairstyles on Pinterest – and the ultimate way to encapsulate French-girl cool vibes – the curtain fringe (or bangs, for our American readers) is a must-have for those not wanting the full-time commitment of a front fringe, but are still looking for some forehead coverage.

And despite what you may have been led to believe, styling a fringe is easier than you think, especially when it’s cut in a way that’s designed to sit naturally.

Need a little convincing? This year was certainly the year of the fringe when it came to all the best celebrity hair moments – with names like Sabrina Carpenter, Dakota Johnson and Jennifer Lawrence taking out the title of most talked-about tresses.

No matter what kind of fringe you’re sporting, getting it to look as perfect as it did when you left the hairdressers is a simple case of practice-makes-perfect.

But fret not, we’ve tapped out little black book of stylists to make it as easy as possible to recreate those salon-worthy tresses in no time.

Below, senior stylist, Penny, from Barney Martin Hair shares her her tips and tricks for nailing your at-home fringe game.

“Your fringe needs to be the first thing you style, always,” says Penny.

Starting with wet hair, spray on your favourite heat protector, as well as some volumising spray or thickening product. Then, separate your fringe into a triangle section in front of your forehead.

“Use the outer brow as a guide for the wide part of the triangle,” Penny instructs.

Next up “Blow dry the roots from left towards right and repeat on the other side.

“The length of your fringe will determine what size brush you should use,” Penny adds, but as a rule “the shorter the fringe, the smaller the brush.”

“You want the ends to slightly bend around the brush,” she says.

Once completely dry, use your fingers to finish off the style, and voilà, a fringe with instant lift that should fall just so.
