By the end of August, we’re not just sick of our winter wardrobes – our skin tends to look as lacklustre as the pilling camel coat we’ve worn all season. But the answer isn’t booking in for an emergency spray tan as soon as the weather warms up – incorporate the below essentials into your routine and your face will thank you for it.
1/ Add antioxidants
Essential both inside and out, antioxidants fight the effects of environmental pollution and are a crucial part of your anti-ageing game. “Air pollutants rob the skin cells of oxygen and encourage free radicals to form,” explains Trilogy global beauty expert Corinne Morley. “Free radicals are often implicated as a cause of dullness, uneven skin tone and hyper-pigmentation.”
For a brighter complexion, consider adding a pure plant oil to your daily skincare regimen. The new Trilogy No. 15 Limited Edition Beauty Oil is designed to protect against environmental damage, thanks to a super-charged blend of rosehip, cherry and baobab oils (all packed with antioxidants), as well as blackcurrant and mango oil for radiance and hydrating nut and seed oils to improve skin’s elasticity. Simply pat two to three drops onto skin after cleansing every morning and night.
2/ And eat them, too
For a lit-from-within glow, ensure your diet is as loaded with antioxidants and essential fatty acids as your skincare is. Incorporate berries, oranges, sweet potatoes and dark leafy greens into your diet for natural sources of antioxidants, as well as oily fish like salmon, eggs, nuts and seeds to get your daily dose of omega-3s.
Sweet tooths will be pleased to hear that dark chocolate is also a valid source of antioxidants – consider it a vital part of your glow-getting strategy.
3/ Get enough sleep
Nothing shows on the skin like a lack of sleep and an overload of stress – cue dullness, inflammation and zero glow. If you struggle to fall asleep, experts suggest getting to bed at the same time every night and setting your alarm for the same time each morning – even on weekends – to regulate your body clock. Needless to say, Netflix is thine enemy.
4/ Cheat with make-up
Hit a busy patch at work? It’s amazing what a few simple beauty hacks can do. Fake the kind of radiance usually the reserve of those who spends weeks at eco resorts by adding a few drops of beauty oil to your foundation for a dewy finish, then dot a gold-flecked highlighter along the high points of the face (think just above the cheekbones, brow bones and cupid’s bow). If your skin is looking particularly haggard, add a brightening mask to your weekly skincare regimen.
5/ Change your cleansing routine
Sometimes it’s the simplest switches that can make the biggest difference. Take the humble muslin cloth: start using one to gently buff away dead skin cells while you cleanse and you’ll be amazed at the difference in your skin. Also, always double cleanse at night to ensure you remove all your make-up as well as daily grime and ensure proper penetration of the skincare to follow.
