Frank’s New ‘Unicorn’ Body Scrub Has A 50,000 Waitlist. So Naturally, We Had To Try It

Fifty. Thousand.

Everyone with an Instagram account is familiar with Frank Body: makers of heavily caffeinated body scrubs and a famously cheeky marketing campaign.

So of course, when Frank launched a new product it was bound to send the internet into overdrive. And that it has – their brand spanking new Shimmer Scrub, $19.95, has rapidly secured itself a 50,000-plus wait list.

50,000-plus. That’s a lot of people wanting to look shimmery after they shower.

Of course, it helps that the Shimmer Scrub taps into the Instagram-fuelled trend for ‘unicorn’ (read: holographic, sparkly, all-pastel everything – mainly make-up and food).

Described by Frank as a ‘party in a packet’, the Shimmer Scrub has the same coffee base as the scrubs that have come before it, with the addition of mica to leave skin sparkling. What’s mica, I hear you ask? According to Frank, it’s “the closest thing to gold dust.” Now this, I had to see.

Don’t be fooled by the (very pretty) marketing campaign: it doesn’t look like actual glitter. Instead, it’s a slightly sandier version of the original, with sugar and salt added to slough off dry skin and grapeseed oil and vitamin E to up the hydration factor.

As someone with a severe aversion to anything labelling itself ‘unicorn’, it was going to take more than some sparkly packaging to win me over. And that it did: the coffee aroma is less intense than the original and it doesn’t leave anywhere near as much of a mess in your shower (a massive bonus in my book).

After showering, my skin was left with the kind of glow you usually only get after a really good massage, with a subtle shimmer.

I may not be a unicorn convert, but I’m prepared to make an exception for a seriously good (and sparkly!) body scrub.
