We ask a perfume expert to decode some of the newest fragrances on offer this season.
MOOD BOOSTERS
With the summer months upon us, now is the time to get into light floral fragrances. “Summer weather changes our response to fragrance,” says Nick Smart, director of Agence de Parfum. “Bergamot, light white florals, citrus and herbaceous notes respond best during the warmer months – [our skin] holds these lighter, fresher scents perfectly.”
IDEAL FOR: A romantic lunch date.

FULL OF LIFE
Exceptionally fresh and vivacious, green and citrus elements are perfect for keeping cool and crisp on hot summer days. “Citrus notes at the top, floral heart notes and woody base notes … are a classic composition,” says Smart.
IDEAL FOR: A day with the girls.
SO CHIC
Feminine floral elements blended with woody or musky notes equal chic refinement. “Rich wood notes of oud or oriental notes of myrrh and frankincense add sexiness, smouldering sophistication and complexity to delicate [florals],” says Smart. If you want a stylish fragrance for everyday wear, seek out “white floral notes, delicate may rose, bergamot and citrus notes, fresh vetiver and light wood notes”, he says.
IDEAL FOR: An inspiring day at the office.
ALL NIGHT LONG
Warm, sensual and more intense, some scents just love the night. To ramp up the heat, seek out “opulent notes of oriental resins like frankincense, myrrh, ambergris and warm notes of sandalwood and amber,” advises Smart. “Sensual notes also encourage pheromonic responses, so they’re an obvious choice for a night out.”
IDEAL FOR: Cocktail Hour
