Take a look at the round, hollow apparatus pictured above. While it may not look like much… that, my friends, is the new Dyson Supersonic hair dryer.
When the British tech giant announced their first ever hair dryer in April, the Internet went into a frenzy. Dyson – the creators of those super-high-tech vacuums we know and love – claimed to have created the holy grail of blow dryers.
The brand’s first styling tool promised to prevent heat damage and protect natural shine, without the noise of a conventional hair dryer. We were pretty excited. But did they pull it off?
Well, after giving the Dyson a test run, our hair was noticeably shinier. Plus, it delivered a blow dry lasted 5 days… without using any product. Tick, tick, tick!
And yes, it is *really* quiet, (thanks to aero-acoustic engineers who used an axial flow impeller inside the motor to “simplify the pathway of the air reducing turbulence and swirling”). What we do know is that you can hold a conversation with your housemate/boyfriend/mum while using your inside voice and drying your hair at the same time. Again, that’s a big tick from us!
Last – but not least – Dyson’s new hair drying is super light. Weighing in at just 618g, you can dry your hair to your hearts content without getting a sore arm.
At a cool $700, the Dyson Supersonic doesn’t come cheap. Is it worth the investment? Let’s put it this way. If you use your blow dryer every day and dish out $2 per use, you’d have paid off Dyson Supersonic in less than a year. (How’s that for Cost Per Use?!)
The Dyson Supersonic will be available exclusively in Myer Melbourne City and David Jones, Elizabeth St Sydney, from midday on Saturday July 9th. Other stores will follow nationally on the 10th.
