When it comes to birthdays, Drew Barrymore knows how to celebrate better than most of Hollywood’s A-list.
Of course, if there’s one thing Drew does best, it’s makeup and skincare. (After all, Flower Beauty is one of the most loved celebrity-owned beauty brands on the market.) But this year, she’s embracing her natural beauty to mark the important day.
Sharing a selfie of her au naturel face to Instagram, the Never Been Kissed star celebrated her 47th birthday to the joy of her various Hollywood A-list friends.
“This is 47,” she wrote in a caption under her makeup-free selfie, presumably taken before or after some skincare action in her bathroom.
“Happy Birthday, you Magical Creature!!! I LOVE YOU! always have, always will,” Reese Witherspoon wrote, and was joined by actress Naomi Watts who wrote, “Happy birthday queen!!”.
Back in April 2021, the Charlie’s Angels star explained why she’s never felt the need to lie about her age.
“I don’t think I could’ve gotten away with that,” she explained on Entertainment Tonight.
“I never got to go on a blind date, and I never lied about my age…that is not something I ever got to do.”
She also explained that she has always felt “proud” of her age, revealing that she would never want to go back at another age.
“I know that’s a boring answer, but it’s true. I think today is my best day so far,” she said.
She continued: “I am so proud of it because I’m so much calmer, wiser, smarter… and I’m still an idiot, and still have so much to learn.”
“We should look inside ourselves rather than looking out to these impossible standards that have made many a woman crazy. I just think the more confident you are, the more beautiful you are, at any age,” she said.
Back in February, Drew explained why she’s been content with embracing her natural self and avoiding plastic surgery, on an episode of her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.
“I’ve never done anything to my face and I would like to try not to,” the 47-year-old admitted, adding, “Never say never.”
“The thing that I do care about and I do feel is still relevant to my life is the face. I know myself. I’m a highly addictive person. I do one injection, I’m going to look like Jocelyn Wildenstein by Friday,” she said.
“I think because I’m so rebellious that I saw all of that pressure and I saw all of those women torturing themselves to look a certain way and I thought, ‘You miserable people’,” Drew continued.
“I just never wanted to be afraid of what life would do to me. I probably went to too many opposite extremes. Now I’m boring and safe and healthy.”
She added, “We’re going to age, things are going to go south, and it’s OK, it’s a part of life.”
“I feel more human and more vulnerable every year of my life but I also know how to appreciate every year more and more too.”
