Ever since her Friends and Scream fame, the world can easily point Courteney Cox out in a crowd. But as the years progress, the sitcom star has revealed that she’s finally ready to embrace her changing appearance.
In an interview with The Sunday Times Style, the 57-year-old opened up about her experience with cosmetic procedures, explaining how her opinion on them has changed since she was younger.
“There was a time when you go, ‘Oh, I’m changing. I’m looking older.’ And I tried to chase that [youthfulness] for years,” she told the publication.
“And I didn’t realise that, Oh shit, I’m actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now.”
Cox explained that as a child, she found herself focused on her mother’s beauty and looks which left the actress to obsessively reflect on her own appearance.
But now, as a mother herself—to her 17-year-old daughter, Coco—she is trying to change the narrative and teach her child a stronger lesson about the importance of embracing yourself as you are. With this new mindset, it’s helped Cox to reflect on how much cosmetic procedures changed her.
“People would talk about me, I think,” she said. “But there was a period where I went, I’ve got to stop—that’s just crazy.”
As for the scrutiny against A-list women in her industry, Cox agreed that Hollywood’s pressure on beauty standards needs to end, comparing it to how she treated herself.
“I don’t know if it could be more intense than what I put on myself,” she confessed.
And while Cox has a few years up her sleeve before turning 60, the Friends alum explained that she’s ready to start a new chapter of her life.
“There’s nothing wrong with being 60, I just can’t believe it. Time goes so fast,” she said.
“There’s no question that I am more grounded, I’ve learnt so much in my life—what to enjoy, what to try to do more of and what to let go of.”
